Being Ice Class certified, which require doubled-up frame spacing and reinforced plating at the waterline and the bow, together with a forward-looking retractable sonar, makes her a really safe voyager. With naval architecture by Ole Steen Knudsen and Tom Fexas, the ice-breaking steel hull is classed above the requirements of all governing bodies. Head engineer Jan Runge, Captain Philip Walsh and four full-time engineers oversaw the build process that started in Denmark in 2004. She was launched in 2006. |
