INITIATIVE is undoubtedly the best 2009 MJM 29Z that will ever come on the market... she has been pampered since new. After spending her first 100 hours on Buzzards Bay, INITIATIVE was taken to fresh water, on the Great Lakes, where she has been ever since. Maintained proactively by her perfectionist owner, she has been updated, upgraded, and is ready for another adventure. Truly a freshwater boat!

All of the MJM line has a similar approach to layouts: since we spend most of our time on our boats enjoying the out-of-doors, why not make the most of the "outdoor" space. Thus the cockpit and helmdeck are integral, with a glass windshield forward and minimal side glass. The helmdeck area can be closed up when desired, with roll-up Strataglass side and aft panels.
Expansive seating all the way around: two seats face forward for the helm and companion underway, and fixed settees all the way around the helmdeck and cockpit. The varnished table from below can be brought up to have a table on the helmdeck.
INITIATIVE has an added cockpit bimini, with mesh side panels, allowing the entire bridge-deck/cockpit area to be enclosed when desired.
Down below, the interior is striking in its elegant simplicity. Woodwork is cherry, sealed with a two-part catalyzed varnish, which makes it both elegant and practical. Furniture is built to the highest standard; fit and finish is superb.
The galley is to port, with an enclosed head compartment opposite, to starboard. Forward of both is a wrap-around settee with a centerline table. The table can be removed to make this into a double berth.

CONSTRUCTION and FEATURES
All of the MJM's are built to the absolute-highest standards. They are built using engineered pre-preg epoxy composites which are vacuum-bagged and post-cured. The construction is fascinating, and is beautifully explained through a video on the MJM website.
Built to be strong yet light, the hulls are designed with good flare forward and deep V back aft, for a responsive, quick "sports car" feel, incredibly DRY ride!
Vacuum-bagged epoxy resins, post cured, house and deck molds
Custom cabinetry built to CAD/CAM standards of the finest materials
Mechanical systems incl. wiring and plumbing to latest ABYC standards
As written by MJM:
Within the 29-33 foot category*, the 29z reigns supreme for fuel-efficiency. Performance and "fuel mileages" per gallon are unmatched by any production builder worldwide
The 29z is the "greenest", most ecologically friendly powerboat for its size range. To match 29z's technological advantage, competitors would have to transform factories, technology, philosophies and manufacturing methods to even come close to the unmatched performance of the 29z. Simply put, a nearly 50% reduction in fuel consumption on a "miles per gallon" basis is not possible without a complete re-thinking of how powerboats are built.
It's not surprising that MJM's "green" initiative started with sailors. Bob Johnstone, co-founder and principal of J Boats, Inc., the world's leading performance brand of sailboats, created MJM with a similar goal in mind. He partnered with Doug Zurn, who he believed had the best eye for creating beautiful fast powerboats, to design the patented signature look of the brand. Then not being able to find any powerboat builder with advanced laminate construction experience, they turned to a custom racing sailboat master builder, Mark Lindsay and Boston Boatworks. Mark had 30 years experience building America's Cup and World Championship winners. The superior structural and laminate engineering skills of Steve Burke completed the team...not unlike creating a Formula One racing car team in automobiles. Only then can you begin to appreciate the know-how and experience that goes into building you the world's best 29 foot powerboat - the MJM 29z!
