We sold the boat new to the currant owners and know more about the details of this boat than anyone
It goes without saying the Island Packet 485 is the “flagship” of the Island Packet line. With “Rockin’ Robbin’s being the cleanest and most well maintained Island Packet 485 on the market to date.
This yacht provides enormous living space, a thoughtfully laid out interior, enough storage to hold gear for a circumnavigation, a well laid out deck and cockpit providing for easy handling for a single handed sailor or a small crew. Such features as a broad anchor platform to the spacious stern boarding platform with duel boarding steps help to enhance this great yacht.
The large aft deck is perfect for sunbathing, set up folding table and you have an impromptu dining area, as well as space large enough to accommodate a 10’ dinghy. The heavy work of placing the dingy on deck is done with the use of the optional boom extension system utilizing an electric winch, with the push of a button your dingy is on deck. A large central hatch and built in ladder lead you to a huge storage area with a second access from the aft cabin. Storage bins on either side of the aft deck hold LPG bottles and miscellaneous gear. The side decks are uncluttered with raised bulwarks forward and plentiful cabin top handrails provide for security on deck.
Below decks, you’ll immediately be impressed by the panoramic view of the open main saloon which flows to a galley that could only be described as a chief’s dream for on board cooking and entertaining. With the spacious forward and aft cabins with private heads, the solid teak and oak soles throughout, a multi-use third stateroom and a navigation center that rivals those on much larger yachts.

"Rockin' Robbin's" when first approached from the dock appears to be a yacht that has just been commissioned and presented to the owner. Instead, she is a yacht that has been used weekly but maintained in "bristle condition" by the owners at all times. This yacht is equipped with all exterior factory options including, bow thruster, electric winch package, electric windlass and extendo boom ( for lifting a dingy out of the water and onto the aft deck). The dodger, bimini and connecting panel also come with a full enclosure that creates a fully weather proof and bug proof cockpit creating an out side living space fully protected from the elements. All sail control lines run to the cockpit to make for easy handling with knot, wind and depth mounted above the companionway and radar/ chartplotter mounted a the helm. Also, you will note the custom teak and Plexiglas doors.
When entering this bright airy Salon your first impression is how spacious this area is. The combination of the light colored salon cushions and the ability to stow the dinette table against the fwd bulkhead provides you with an unobstructed floor space. The salon has the capability of entertaining a large group of friends like no other 48 foot yacht. In a pinch and need an extra berth for an overnight guest the port settee pulls out and converts into a large double.
At your left you will note the large expanse of glass, below a 36" Toshiba flat panel TV connected to a LG blue ray player providing the owners with great movie viewing. The settee is covered in an off white ultra-leather and the cabin soles are solid teak and oak (not veneer) providing a striking contrast.
From the base of the companionway to starboard and aft you will find the galley. Whether long distance voyaging or entertaining for a large group of friends at your local yacht club this galley will handle it all.
It is bright and airy located close to the companionway and adjacent to the salon you are never removed from crew and guests. With the use of a partial bulkhead and lowering this area ( 1 ) step down it designates the space without closing it in.
As to galley equipment this yacht has it all. On the outboard side you have ( 2 ) refrigerators/ freezers each with their own separate compressors and controls enabling the owner to make either box a refrigerator or freezer just by the temperature that you would set the controls. Below these units is your third refrigerated space in the form of a refrigerated draw which again has its own separate system.
The cooking is handled by an all stainless 3 burner Force 10 LPG stove w/oven and broiler. This unit also has the sealed burners for easy cleaning as well as the retracting door to prevent tipping when gimballed and to clear the isle. On the inboard island is a large stainless Microwave oven and plenty of open counter space.
To finish this area there is a deep double bowl sink, fresh water hand pump, slide out trash bin and a custom storage cabinet for additional items. The countertops are beautifully finished with a one piece molded fiddle to aid in cleaning and keeping a neat and orderly galley when under way. The cabin sole is made of a molded nonskid again for easy maintanance and a sure footed feel.
Moving aft you enter the owners stateroom. As a focal point of this cabin is a queen sized island berth and for added comfort it is topped with a ( 5" ) innerspring mattress. Again this is a very bright and airy cabin with lots of headroom. There are ( 6 ) opening ports and a larger overhead hatch to provide both natural ventilation and light.
On the starboard side is a built-in chair flanked by both large cedar-lined hang lockers as well as shelved storage. Beneath the berth is both a large cedar lined draw as well as the foot end of the berth lifts on gas struts to provide access a larger blanket storage area.
Access to the large aft deck locker is also provide through a gasketed door on the aft bulkhead. On the port side fwd bulkhead is a door that will provide access to the owners private head. Cabin sole through out aft cabin are solid teak and oak planking.
Entering the owners head you are grerted by a bright efficient space. To port is a VacuFlush head with open shelves and doored cabinets above, to the starboard side is a one piece molded sink and counter with storage below and a large mirror above. You then walk into a large molded shower stall with a folding acrylic door and a molded in seat. This entire head area is made of easy to clean light colored surfaces and a none slip sole and outside ventilation provided by ( 2 ) opening ports.
The forward cabin is no less impressive. With an island style berth as the focal point of this cabin with a similar arrangement to the owners stateroom with cedar lined draws and the foot end of the berth and a lift up foot end of the berth as well.
This berth is flanked to both port and starboard with beautifully finished hanging and shelved lockers. Once again the cabin sole in this area is solid teak and oak planking.
The forward head services both the common areas of the boat as well as the forward cabin with its own private entrance. The counter top is a one piece acrylic with molded in fiddles and a SS sink. The head is a VacuFlush unit using fresh water for the flush from its own water supply tank. This head area also includes a large stall shower with teak seat and a bi-fold acrylic door.
This area is the last but maybe the most interesting area on the Island Packet 485.
When first entering you are welcomed by a large open desktop (about 20 square ft.). Beneath on the forward end are large doors beneath outboard is an electricly adjustable chair with more storage to the right of the chair. The forward area may be used for general storage or for a washer/ dryer combo unit. The counter top can then be used when doing laundry or, as an office. When using as a laundry area there is plenty of room for printers, fax machines and other office equipment if using as a full or part time office.
With the factory filler in place and the cushions on top this cabin now becomes a 3rd private sleeping cabin. This is that multi purpose space that is never available on a boat of this size.
This yacht is a rare find, she has been used exclusively on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, maintained in bristle fashion at all times and not overly equipped.
Manufacturer Provided Description
The 485, provides enormous living space, enough storage to hold gear for a circumnavigation, enough sail to speed you comfortably to your destination and the convenience of managing it all from the cockpit. From the broad anchor platform to the spacious stern boarding area, the 485’s deck abounds with features you will appreciate.
The large aft deck is perfect for sunbathing, impromptu dining and is also large enough to accommodate up to a 10’ dinghy, which can be easily hoisted aboard with a clever optional boom extension system. Storage bins on either side of the aft deck hold LPG bottles and miscellaneous gear. A larger central hatch opens to a ladder leading into a huge storage lazarette. Uncluttered side decks, a recessed foredeck and plentiful cabin top handrails provide security on deck.
Below, you’ll be immediately impressed by the panoramic view of the open main saloon, the spacious forward and aft cabins with private heads, the solid teak and oak soles throughout, the gourmet galley, a multi-use third stateroom and a navigation center that rivals those on much larger yachts.
Adjacent to the companionway, the nav station includes a high-backed swivel armchair, inlaid table with storage tray, cabinetry space sufficient to mount a wide variety of equipment you might select and the master electrical panels for ship-board AC and DC equipment. There’s also a hanging locker suitable for wet gear within reach. This area is so impressive that SAIL Magazine’s Best Boats judges made this comment: “Any offshore navigator would love to call this nerve center home. This is the best equipped nav station we saw this year.”
In the main saloon the starboard settee converts to a double berth when fully extended and both settees double as comfortable sea berths. A large table stows against the forward bulkhead and deploys to create a spacious dining area. CE Category A – Ocean rated safety windows provide a panoramic view and overhead lights and numerous reading lamps with individual dimmers are found throughout.
The gourmet galley is equipped with digitally controlled refrigerator and freezer compartments and double gasketed drop-front lids on gas support struts for easy access. Either compartment may be used for refrigerated or frozen storage at the setting of the controls. There’s also a pull-out refrigerator drawer for quick access to popular beverages and food.
Aft is the grand owner’s stateroom with an offset double island berth. Hanging storage with extra height is provided by the outboard hanging locker. Access to the aft lazarette storage area is also made available through the aft bulkhead.
Forward is a guest stateroom and head with a double island berth. All staterooms include numerous opening ports and large overhead hatches, providing plenty of light and ventilation. Both berths are surrounded by an array of cabinets, lockers, drawers and shelves, including hinged lids that lift to reveal blanket trays.
The third cabin is across from the forward head and is perfect for a multitude of uses. One can choose over/under style berths as a sleeping area or an L-shaped counter/desk with built-in cabinets underneath for an office, laundry, or workshop. An optional filler piece is also available to make a double berth with this latter configuration.
Both luxurious heads feature vanities with solid acrylic countertops, separate shower stalls with seats, folding acrylic doors and standard VacuFlush® heads. Whether cruising the oceans of the world or exploring coastal anchorages, the 485 has been designed and built to take you safely and comfortably to your destination.
