Near Miss is an IRC Fully-Optimised TP52 capable of offshore racing. Originally 2008 Artemis Racing, designed by Reichel/Pugh and built by Cookson Boats NZL for the Med Cup Series. After purchasing from Artemis Racing this TP52 was fully optimised for IRC offshore racing. Modifications were completed by Ericson Boatbuilders with bow stiffeners designed by the Reichel/Pugh office and a hollow milled-steel IRC Keel and machined Bulb. The Southern Spars Mast was also strengthened and re-enforced to accommodated reefing loads and a reef-lock position was added.

Built by Cookson Boats NZL for Artemis Racing to compete in the 2008 Med Cup Series, this was a no expense spared build. A single tool Female Hull Mould & Female Deck Plug to enable the lighest and fairest hull and deck possible. The hull and deck construction are of Pre – Preg Carbon Fiber and Kevlar with Nomex Honeycomb Cores. The boat was at minimum weight and maximum VCG to the TP52 rule. The is zero internal ballast.
Upon purchasing this TP52 from Artemis Racing, the Near Miss Team set-out to reconfigure the boat for IRC racing with an eye toward a more offshore capable boat without compromising weight and performance. The Reichel Pugh design office was involved with this process, providing bow panel stiffening structures as well as a new fabricated hollow milled-steel keel and milled bulb.
The Southern Spars Mast was also strengthened and re-enforced to enable safe reefing and the use of the mainsail halyard lock while reefed.
Near Miss complies with OSR Cat #2 and has competed in several offshore events, including the Fastnet Race, Rolex Middle Sea Race, Giraglia Rolex Cup, RORC Cowes-Dinard-St. Malo, St. Barts Voiles and the Rolex International Regatta in St. Thomas.
This is an Opimised TP52 perfectly prepared to race in the offshore classics like the Bermuda Race, Pineapple Cup, Transpac Race, Sydney-Hobart Race and the 2015 Trans-Atlantic Race.
