VELA is a special boat, custom designed by Chuck Paine for an experienced sailor who wanted an aluminum offshore sailing vessel that would be easy to handle on extended passages, self sufficient and simple to maintain. The design brief called for speed under sail, a balanced helm and rock-solid security in rough conditions. While electric winches make life easier, all functions can be performed manually. Numerous small details enhance the sailing/living experience. The owner’s vision, the design talents of Chuck Paine and the craftsmanship at Kanter Yachts came together to create a truly wonderful cruising yacht.
