SNARLEYOW is a very special custom Downeast picnic cruiser designed by Chuck Paine. Anyone looking for a modern Downeast Express cruiser of her type will not be disappointed – they will consider themselves lucky to have found her. She is in near-new condition with an upgraded Cummins diesel engine (2015), electronics (2015) and canvas (2017).
SNARLEYOW’s original owners looked at many available stock boats of this size and even sea trialed the more appealing ones, but none would do. Using previous custom Paine designs built by Lyman Morse, Able, and York for guidance, they created their nimble 34-footer with York Marine. Her double-chined hull with deep spray rails provides good performance and a surprisingly dry ride called for in Buzzards Bay, famed for its good strong southwest afternoon breeze and choppy seas.

With her fixed hardtop, SNARLEYOW sports a very nicely detailed bridge deck. The hardtop has a huge center electric sun roof with screen and shade. The sole has teak decking, and she has varnished teak trim with a varnished teak table complimenting her comfortable L-shaped settee. Both the helm and the navigator's seats are Stidd pedestal. The entire teak console can be raised hydraulically for easy and full engine access. All new canvas (2017).
The cockpit also has teak decking and varnished teak coamings, with a wide lounging settee facing aft that can accommodate two additional sleepers. There is Eisinglass and mosquito netting to fully encompass the cockpit area for comfortable cruising in the fall and spring and in buggy areas. The mast head is on hinges and can be lowered for cruising inland waterways or for easy trailering and maintenance. There are two large custom stainless steel davits on starboard and port sides, aft, for hoisting and carrying an 11-foot inflatable dinghy (dinghy not included in sale). There is a hot water stern shower system, as well as a live fishing well. SNARLEYOW's stern transom, with its classic tumblehome, opens for easy walk-through to a fiberglass-with-teak-decking swim platform, with retractable swim ladder under.
Below decks SNARLEYOW’s joinery is varnished cherry, crafted and finished to the very best of Maine custom boat building standards. There are four oversized full hatches with shades and screens that open fore and aft. Sleeping accommodations are forward with a V-berth configuration. The galley is to port, and the head and a cedar-paneled hanging locker are to starboard.
