This Cabo was hauled and bottom painted in the fall (see photos). The new bottom paint is the ablative style that can be taken in and out of the water while maintaining its anti-fouling properties. At the time of hauling, we also filled a work order for BRAND NEW dripless shaft-logs from tides marine and we had the props balanced.
All navigation lights, pumps, and accessories tested to be in full working order. In fact, the only item that I found not fully operational is the refrigerator side of the cabin freezer/ fridge. (The freezer portion gets cold, just not the refrigerator side.)
I, personally, give the exterior condition of this CABO to be a solid 8.5 on a 1-10 scale. The upholstery is all in excellent condition… Soft and clean. The gelcoat has fabulous shine to it.
I, personally, also give the interior a solid 8.5. The woodwork is in good condition. The only interior complaints that I had include: 1) The door lock for the head door was replaced at some point and the old mounting holes are evident. (One should be able to put a strike plate in place and hide the prior mounting holes.) 2) The teak floor just outside of the shower shows some wear.
The Cummins QSC8.3s are, by far the best powerplant for the 35 Cabo Express. They push the Cabo better and more efficiently than the other options. Plus, if and when it comes time to rebuild these terrific diesels, the Cummins dealership estimated a cost of only $8,000-$10,000 per engine. Both of these QSCs performed fabulous during my sea-trials! I have put over 20 hours on these engines and they have not skipped a beat. They both start right up and do not show any excess smoke. The oils all appear normal and they both reach their full factory WOT rpms! All of the gauge readings appear normal and within spec. We had a Cummins mechanic sea-trial these engines and take the readings via his laptop. All of the temperature and pressure readings were excellent. It is important to note that the Common Rail model diesels have done to inboards what four-strokes did to outboards…. They are more fuel efficient and much quieter than traditional diesels. There are 5237 hours on these Common Rails. I have spoken to two separate Cummins mechanics that tell me that they should have lots of life left in them. Even if desired, one can have the diesels completely overhauled for $8,000- $10,000 per engine
The Westerbeke generator was removed from this CABO shortly after we obtained it. The genset turned over but was not producing voltage. The mechanic stated that it will be close to the same price to replace it than it would be to overhaul the genset. If the buyer desires a new genset, we can have a brand new Westerbeke installed for $9800. (The newer Garmin electronics alone are worth well more than a brand new genset costs.) In the end, one can rebuild both engines, put a brand new generator on board, get a great looking 2008 with a tower and superb electronics, and be well under the $250,000 mark. The ones with 1,000-2,500 hours are selling in the $365,000-$409,000 range. This is a deal of a lifetime. THIS BLOWOUT PRICE IS SUPER LOW AND SUPER FIRM. THIS ONE WILL BE SOLD ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS AT THIS DEAL. NO EXCEPTIONS.
