‘Taz’ is an uncommon boat, for the uncommonly smart sailor. Built by the original leader in Catamaran Production, this mono-hull concept provides the comfort and speed that multihull owners expect, in a boat that caters to the sailor that needs to ‘feel’ his boat really SAIL. The Feeling 36 represents one of the best thought out, best built, and best sailing offshore cruising boats a couple could choose to own.

The interior finish of ‘Taz’ was chosen in teak veneer instead of the more common Cheery being used to cut costs on many new production boats today. Teak has proven over many decades to be more durable, more forgiving, and more comfortable an interior veneer than the newer option of cherry, which has a tendency to water stain. A high quality plastic laminate floor that appears so similar to traditional teak’n’holly flooring is far more durable, and easier to keep looking great. All thorough-out the joinery work is strong and well fitted, with so much storage you will never remember where you put it all. This boat is available with both a lifting keel, or as in this example, with a powerful fixed keel. The advantages to this fixed keel choice go beyond having a simpler boat structurally – on to providing a MASSIVE amount of storage in the centreboard trunk on centreline, arranged as a pedestal for the large dinning table, and fitted with handrails for security at sea. As opposed to what is seen in many modern boats, with large open floor space and no handholds, it’s easy to see why this is the more seaworthy choice – storage, security, and an open feel too. Ask me for detail photos.
Starting forward is the centerline double berth with a hanging locker aft to starboard. There are shelved units outboard on either side of the bed. To port there is an additional single settee with hanging pegs mounted on the bulkhead for extra storage.
Aft of the forward cabin is the main salon area featuring an L shaped settee surrounding the dining table to port. An additional settee is to starboard. Outboard above the settees are shelved units for ample storage room.
Aft in the salon to port is the L shaped galley with the double sinks most forward inboard and the stove aft outboard followed by the fridge. Opposite the galley to starboard is the forward facing chart table with separate seating. An additional hanging locker is aft of the settee to store more nautical books and charts.
Aft of the navigation station to starboard is the head. The sink basin is located forward followed by the inboard facing toilet and the shower stall most inboard.
Past the companionway steps to port is the aft cabin. This double berth cabin is set to port side with a large hanging locker forward of the bed.

‘Taz’ is fitted with additional batteries as well as a ‘DuoGen’ wind and water generator to provide for full time live aboard capabilities. The owners report he water gen function takes less than 2 minutes to set up, and puts out far more power than the wind generator does, particularly when underway off the wind (lower apparent breeze) and they are very happy with the system design and function. You will be too! Ask me for detail photos.

Sails & Rigging
Spar-Craft supplied the mast and rigging for this boat, with a Profurl headsail furler too. Spar-Craft is one of the most popular spar builder in the production business today. Sparcraft has an outstanding reputation for producing durable, effective and safe rigging systems. When you’re sailing offshore, that matters. It matters the most. ‘Taz’ is fitted with a fully battened mainsail on Selden ball-bearing cars, with traditional ‘hook the tack and haul the clew line’ reefing, as well as lazy jacks and a stack-pak cover too. The large jib is handled by the efficient Profurl headsail furler, the unit which can handle the highest loads of any furler with easy, and provides the best furled shape as well. A Solent stay is fitted immediately inside this furler, for setting a staysail in heavy weather, or when running under twin jibs. Due to a factory engineering error, the chainplates were recalled on these model boats – and as an additional insurance against potential problems, the complete rigging kit from tangs on the mast right through to chainplates and bolts, was changed by the warranty in 2008. The rig is 1 year younger than the boat, and in perfect condition. Ask me for detail photos.

Deck & Hull
The cockpit layout of the Feeling 36 is very well designed. The pronounced rocker of the helm seat allows comfort and power at the wheel on any angle of heel. There is enough room to easily move around the large steering wheel without crawling on your knees over the seats. The current owners have a lot of experience sailing racing boats of all sorts, and they have added both adjustable backstay tackle and a main sheet fine tune at the steering station, for constant access to top performance. Both Genoa primary winches are arranged on unique pedestals either side of the companionway allowing the trimmer to operate the powerful self-tailing winches standing up , certainly the most ergonomic design found on boats. A common feature of multihull design is stand up sail handling, as opposed to the on your knees business most mono-hulls demand, and this is just one more example of why this is an uncommon boat.. Beautiful teak decks set in glue with no fasteners give the best non-skid surface, easy to keep clean and beautiful to behold. The seaworthy choice. Ask me for detail photos.

This Feeling 36 is fitted with an oversize engine, from the factory, of 40hp as opposed to the normal 29hp motor. There is a large alternator which in practice puts out 85 amps until the banks are charged. The water impeller can be accessed easily on the front of the engine. The power train runs through a Hurth ZF gearbox and out the hull by way of a drip less shaft seal and propeller shaft, to a 3 blade Max Prop propeller – you can’t make a better auxiliary power choice. There are at current time 750 hours on the engine. Ask me for detail photos.
