With this yacht the yard's S range has been enriched by a flagship that carries the concept and stylistic elements of a line of vessels that have enjoyed great success right from the start. Also in this case it is all a result of Stefano Righini's research and creativity with regard to the overall stylistic plan and Carlo Galeazzi's work on the interiors, where we found refined yet sober environments.
The guideline concept of the entire design developed by Stefano Righini for the creation of this yacht was freedom, understood as the possibility of experiencing the atmospheres of the saloon and the cockpit as a single area by opening the great door that separates them; or freedom for owner and guests to enjoy suitable intimacy, thanks to skilful handling of the division of the crew areas. But the designer draws further from the concept of freedom in describing the stylistic codes which - together with the reliability of the vessel, guaranteed by the yard's experience and production skill - offer the owner the possibility of cutting an outstanding figure at whatever port he happens to tie up.
The whole design process for the Azimut 103 S followed the protocols laid down by the International Regulations for classification of fast vessels, known as the HSC Code, which prescribes optimisation of materials in function of installed power. And there's a whole lot of power aboard the 103 S: two 2.434 MTU engines coupled with two Kamewa Rolls Royce hydrojets. Since 2003, when the first S range model was presented (the well known 68), the yard and designers have continued studying this line of vessels whose special features have drawn the attention of foreign markets. The characteristics of the Azimut S line lie mainly in matching the sporty nature expressed by the layout with absolute levels of comfort. These result from solutions that create environments which are always welcoming, including solutions that were unknown when the first S range yacht was presented but are now found also on other vessels. Today with the 103 S the designers' efforts, interpreted by the yard with unquestionable skill, have been transformed into a great sports yacht where once again we find brand new solutions, such as those that ensure total privacy for owner and guests, yet with spacious areas for various uses and intercommunicating in order to guarantee conviviality.
This concept is found in particular on the main deck: the great indoor area of the superstructure - equipped with a roof that can be opened electrically and with sliding doors aft - can be turned into a single large environment that also includes the cockpit. The latter is partially sheltered above by the extension of the superstructure and contains an L-shaped sofa with coffee table on the starboard side, a sofa set athwartship with central table, two small sofas set against the sides and another central sofa that doubles as a sun-bed, also with a central table. On accessing the cockpit from the aft bridge by means of the two side stairways the impact is striking: the eye ranges uninterruptedly to the command bridge across a single spacious environment featuring indoor and outdoor areas and many relaxation accessories. The saloon within the superstructure is furnished with sofas, tables, armchairs and a large plasma screen; the dining area has a table set athwartship, aft of the sophisticated command bridge. On the lower deck there are four cabins for owner and guests. The VIP cabin is forward, with the bed set at 45° to the centreline, thus creating free space. It also has an office/dressing table corner, wardrobes and a large bathroom with separate shower unit. Aft of the VIP cabin there are two twin-bed cabins, both with private bathroom, and the large galley which is totally isolated and accessible from the main deck. In the owner's full-beam suite amidships, Stefano Righini and Carlo Galeazzi's design skills are clearly evident, respectively with regard to the large windows at sea level on both sides and to the furnishings and fittings. Great luminosity and a view of absolute impact; elegance deriving from a careful selection of materials and colours together with an attentive study of artificial lighting. Great spaces, thanks to the size of the cabin but also to the choice of placing the double bed in a central position, are the result of the two designers' collaboration. The cabin also has a relaxation corner with two armchairs and a table on the port side and a writing desk with chair on the starboard side, which can also be used as a dressing table. Plus a walk-in wardrobe and large bathroom. The crew's quarters are aft of the owner's suite and consist of one double bed cabin and one twin, separated centrally by the galley and the mess, all served by an independent access of course. The large garage aft is especially noteworthy and houses a 5.80 metre RIB tender and two jet-skis, easily handled even when guests are using the cockpit sundecks since the gate opens without interfering in the least with anything above it.
But we still haven't finished with the relaxation areas to be enjoyed while cruising aboard the 103 S: the forward zone has a spacious sundeck and a C-shaped sofa athwartship facing forward, well protected and with two coffee tables so it can also be used under way. And that's not all because the 103 S also has an upper deck on the aft part of the superstructure where there is a second command bridge with all the auxiliary controls and a C-shaped sofa with tables and sofas at the sides of the helmsman's seat for those who want to enjoy sailing from this dominant position.
The Azimut 103 S is a superyacht that we particularly liked, and we feel that vessels of this kind can only consolidate the worldwide perception of absolute quality that Italian Style offers.
