The Herreshoff Alerion is one of the most admired yacht designs of all time. The first Alerion was designed and built by Nathanial Herreshoff as his personal boat 100 years ago; she now resides at Mystic Seaport Museum where generations of sailors have been entranced by her subtle curves and elegant simplicity. The Rumery’s Alerion is wisely built to the original design, as, while other boats have been inspired by the original, none have equaled her beauty, speed, comfort and refined sailing manner.
Rumery’s Boatyard, in Biddeford, Maine, has done a fine job of converting the design for fiberglass construction while preserving all the aesthetic appeal and spirited performance of Nathaniel Herreshoff’s personal yacht. The Alerion is fast, comfortable, maneuverable and easy to sail. She is lively in light air yet stiff and powerful in a breeze.
"Puffin is hull #15, built in 2006 with all desirable options, including a custom lightweight carbon fiber mast extended 4', and an overlapping genoa, resulting in superb light air performance. She is in excellent condition and is highly recommended to those who wish to own a pedigreed classic daysailer, and one of the greatest sailboats of all time.
Replacement cost is approximately $135,000.
