This Fresh Water Colgate 26 offers a superior handling and sailing boat that due to the 40% ballast ratio and the resulting stability makes her capable of being sailed with 6 people on board yet is easily sailed with one blowing 5 knots or 25 knots.
The flag ship design for the Off Shore Sailing School and "THE" boat used by the US NAVAL Academy , the USCG Academy & the US Merchant Marine Academy.
When introduced the Colgate won Cruising World honors as "BOAT OF THE YEAR" in the "Pocket Cruising Division". The reasons were many but include the boat's stability, the well balanced helm, the open transom, the positive flotation causing her to be "Unsinkable", the small cuddy with sit up headroom, and the way better than average sailing performance.
This particular Colgate includes a virtually new 3.5 Mercury 4 stroke and a custom over built tandem trailer. The beautiful Navy hull, maybe needing some buffing, still shows well and is quite distinctive.
Essentially two suits of sails (the recent ones were New in 2013) offers even more value as you will not have to go purchase new sails to be fleet competitive right out of the box. The 165 PHRF rating is roughly 6 seconds a mile faster than the wonderful J 24. Worth noting that the owner of the Colgate sailed J 24's for 20 years and then moved forward to the Colgate.
Located in New Mexico, please contact us for making connection with the owner who will gladly meet you at the boat and help you on your way to where ever this Colgate 26 may lead you.

Manufacturer Provided Description
By combining exciting performance with safety and durability at exceptional value, Steve Colgate and naval architect Jim Taylor created the 25'8" Colgate 26 to put the fun back into sailing. A spacious 11'6" cockpit provides ample room for six adults. Below you'll find storage for both daysailing and weekending. The computer-designed underbody creates stability and exceptional performance in both light and heavy air. Durable fiberglass construction minimizes upkeep. For safety, the COLGATE 26 is virtually unsinkable, even if holed, and is completely self-bailing. Rigid cockpit railings provide security and comfort. The COLGATE 26 was named Cruising World Magazine??s Boat of the Year in 1997 and was recently selected for training by the U.S. Naval academy, the UK Sailing Academy and the Maine Maritime Academy. Test-sail the C-26 at any of Offshore Sailing School??s 7 national locations. The effective rudder allows excellent maneuverability and easy steerage in even the most extreme conditions. Durable fiberglass construction minimizes upkeep, and the deck-to-hull joint is through-bolted and covered by a custom extruded, hard rubber guard. Extra reinforcement has been added to the keel / hull junction as well as to all other high impact areas. The use of CoreCell foam adds additional strength to the deck and cockpit.
