Island Packet 38
Sunny Girl is a meticulously maintained, fresh water Island Packet 370. She has safely taken her owners throughout the Great Lakes and to Canada’s North Channel.
Following her acquisition in 2008, Sunny Girl has spent winters in heated storage at the Manitowoc (WI) Marina, one of the leading yards on the Great Lakes. The Manitowoc specialists have maintained all her key systems on a rigorous annual schedule.
Sunny Girl’s blue water cruising capacity means that long passages and crossings can be undertaken safely and comfortably. A cutter rig — with main, jib, and staysail controlled easily from the cockpit — ensures ease of handling and allows smooth adjustment to changing conditions. The asymmetrical spinnaker permits smooth sailing in light weather. A bow thruster and prop upgrade (Vari-Prop Feathering Propeller) make for smooth docking and close quarter maneuvering. The swim platform, easily launched dinghy, and Mercury outboard engine make exploring anchorages easy. (A shower on the swim platform is a great way to end a day.)
The 2013 installation of a Furuno Navnet TZ ChartPlotter Navigation System, a Furuno Navpilot Autopilot, and Furuno Radar (a $28,000 project) ensures precise navigation from the helm. The cockpit’s sturdy Lippincott dodger and bimini can be fully enclosed to provide protection in raw weather.
Periodic analysis of oil samples by the Blackstone Lab confirm that the 56 HP Yanmar engine is in tip-top shape.
Below the water line Sunny Girl’s hull is protected by four coats of Interprotect 2000.
Interior accommodations are unmatched by any vessel in this class. Featured throughout are the high quality carpentry and finely-finished woodwork unique to the Island Packet brand. Ultra leather in the salon is luxurious and easy to maintain. Corian counters in the galley and head are a nice touch.
Spend several weeks or months aboard Sunny Girl and never experience close quarters. Her galley is well-equipped and organized to make meal preparation and cleanup a breeze. Ample storage in the Frigoboat, keel-cooled refrigerator includes a functioning freezer compartment.
Interior storage capacity is excellent as befits a boat designed to sail the globe. Large accessible compartments flank each side of the cockpit. Fuel (75 gallons), fresh water (160 gallons), and waste (55 gallons) tankage are ample. Fresh water and waste tanks are easily monitored by gauges at the nav station.
If you are looking for a safe, stable, exceedingly comfortable and well-maintained sailboat able to take you anywhere, Sunny Girl will exceed your expectations.
