Built by Southport Island Marine in Maine whose slogan is “Life is too short to own an ugly boat”...the Southport 30 is the epitome of what a correct Downeast Cruiser should be. From her sweeping sheerline to the just right tumblehome stern this boat is equally at home cruising the coast or visiting the yacht club.
Powered by an economical, quiet, reliable and powerful Yanmar 6 cylinder diesel for cruising speeds in the high teens. The hull was awlgripped green in 2016 and the pilothouse features the desired enclosed starboard side with sliding door and aft drop curtains. A Side Power bow thruster with joystick control simplifies docking.
This is a rare offering and is reluctantly but seriously for sale. She's always been a northeast boat - Highly Recommended - come take a look!

The cabin is bright and airy thanks to (4) stainless steel opening portlights and an opening Bomar overhead hatch. The teak and holly cabin sole is complimented by the Herreshoff style white Formica/varnished teak treatment. Forward is a 6'10" long V-berth with filler cushion. A large cooler is found under the berth and the anchor locker can be accessed at the forepeak, rod storage is provided on both sides of the berth.
The galley is aft to port with a stainless screened opening port above to provide ventilation. There’s a roomy laminate countertop with stainless steel sink, built in trash bin and a microwave sits on the counter just fwd. Storage in the galley is in a cabinet under the sink and in 2 drawers and a flip down under the counter.
Enclosed head is across from the galley with a vanity counter, stainless sink with faucet for hot/cold pressure water. Jabsco electric head with Y-valve to holding tank, deck pumpout and overboard discharge. Another stainless screened opening port lights and ventilates this area. Storage is in 2 flip-downs under the counter.
The helmdeck is again finished in Herreshoff style with a non-skid fiberglass deck. A fiberglass hardtop protects this area in classic downeast fashion. The three part windshield is equipped with AFI electric wipers and both the port and starboard sides open for ventilation. The normally open starboard side has a fiberglass sliding door which completely changes the character of the boat – closed for inclement weather, or open in nice weather or around the docks. Helm and portside pedestal seats are perfectly placed. Drop curtains with clear panels protect the aft end of the wheelhouse.
The large cockpit provides a terrific platform to set up table and chairs for sunset cruises. cocktails, or dining. Stow them away and it’s wide open for fishing, kids etc. Gunwale height is just right – high enough to feel safe yet low enough for comfortable boarding. Fiberglass self-draining cockpit sole is simple to keep clean.
