Manufacturer Provided Description
The Boston Whaler 16 Ventura is a versatile runabout that's perfect for both skiing and fishing. Her broad-beamed, dual console, open bow design allows for plenty room and comfort. With a large bow area, comfortable helm and companion seating, and aft seats, there's plenty of room for everyone. Spacious walk-through windshields can be secured to provide weather protection in colder climates. Storage can be found under the bow seats, in the consoles, and in the stern. Options include under-gunnel storage for rods or skis, a livewell, a trolling motor panel, a fishing seat, a ski pylon, a Bimini top, and stainless steel handrails. Unibond construction makes the 16 Ventura virtually unsinkable. Decks with superfine, nonskid, micro-pyramid surfaces provide excellent footing even when wet. A higher freeboard, combined with the Accutrack hull's reversed chines and spray rails, gives this boat a dry, comfortable ride. The deep-V slices through chop and waves smoothly, while the running strakes get her up on plane fast and improve fuel economy. Fiberglass, stainless steel, and marine-grade vinyl construction make cleanup easy and quick.
Boston Whaler Ventura 16, Model 160VT204, Hull No. BWCBE122C101, (Whaler) was purchased new from Birbarie Marine Sales, Branford, CT, USA in May of 2001. After 15 seasons, its original (and only) owner is offering the Whaler for sale because his ageing family needs to downsize to a smaller craft that is easier to trailer and simpler to maintain. While the Whaler, motor and trailer are all salt-water rated, the Whaler has been used only in fresh water on a small lake in southern New England during the warm weather time between Memorial Day in May and Labor Day in September. It has been used just for water skiing, fishing and recreational cruising by family members and guests on weekends and during short vacations. Between uses on-season, the Whaler has been covered at dockside.
Off-season, the Whaler has always been stored in a purpose-built, all weather, wooden boathouse. Put-away has always included all dealer and factory-recommended cleaning and servicing procedures. Since new, the motor has been maintained using only Mercury parts, the hull waxed only with Collinite products, and the bottom painted with Interlux Micron CSC 5585 in “shark white.” However, due to problems with ethanol in the fuel, the original carbureted 2001 115 HP Mercury 2-cycle motor was replaced in October of 2012 with a direct-injected 115 HP Mercury Optimax 2-cycle motor, Model 1115D73HY. Thus far, this motor has run less than 100 hours.
For fishing, an engine-mount Minn Kota RT55 55EM salt-water trolling motor with 55 pounds of thrust is attached to the Mercury motor above its anti-cavitation plate. Thus the trolling motor is steered from the helm, which simplifies boat handling. The trolling motor’s variable speed control (forward and reverse) is located adjacent to the Mercury motor throttle. The trolling motor is powered by a dedicated and separate deep-cycle 12V battery that is recharged from an on-board ProSport6 charger when connected to 110 VAC shore power.
The 2001 Carnai trailer, Model CN161824, VIN 5FMBC5N1X11100005, is galvanized and equipped with a folding tongue that reduces its off-season stored length to approximately 19 feet, excluding motor. The trailer also includes bearing buddies, guides to facilitate launching and retrieval, a spare tire with cover, and an adjustable-height tongue jack that swivels and castors.
