Similar to all Tartans, the 3800 hull is NPG-ISO gelcoated with a back-up of vinylester resin and a hand laminated sandwich core of unidirectional "E" glass and balsa. High-stress components such as engine beds, mast step, shroud anchors and hull backbone are solidly laminated and structurally bonded to the hull skin with fiberglass taping for assured strength and firmness. Topside, she has a well-balanced composite of Baltek balsa core and glass sandwiched for stiffness. On deck, the balsa is omitted at each hardware installation point, allowing each piece to be supported by solid glass and aluminum backing plates. Her well-distributed beam grants spacious accommodations within, featuring a double stateroom forward and one aft. All berths have cedar-lined hanging lockers, while the forecabin has a six drawer bureau. Her cabinetry is fully finished in teak hardwood and provides service access to hardware and wiring through removable panels. The well-equipped galley is comfortable to work in and favors ample stowage of provisions. The double sink is close to centerline for excellent drainage and the icebox is deep and spacious with both top and frontal openings. A three-burner gimballed stove is standard, yet a microwave option is available providing a two-burner stove substitute. In its own niche to port, navigation station has a generous chart table facing forward with both tube chart storage and a set of drawers. Accounting for electronic installation, entry to the main electrical systems and wiring is also obtained from the navigation station. On deck, her traditional cabin house couples graciously with the comfortable cockpit and broad sidedecks. From the forward anchor locker to the wide-scooped swim platform, all her fittings are functional and of superior quality. Equipped with a keel-stepped aluminum tapered mast with double spreaders, her standard rigging is elegantly simple. Fixed with a 40-inch stainless steel wheel, her cockpit is workable and allows for plenty of enjoyment for the family, crew or a single couple. All lines lead aft and wrap around strategically positioned Harken winches and sheet stoppers. The tall, standard teak toe-rails are essential to her hull to deck joint, while aiding in the safety of the non-skid footing. The recessed custom stainless steel chocks provide for easy attachment of spring and mooring lines. Traditional in layout, the main cabin centers around a midship drop-leaf table and both a U-shaped and conventional settee. Fabricated with contoured foam cushions, all are fashioned with quality, modern upholstery selections.
