The resounding success of both the Swan 48 and the Swan 60 provided confirmation that their new formula was a winning combination all round. Indeed, soon after their launch both models were proving to be popular for cruising - both with a full crew and shorthanded. With this design the distinctive characteristics of the third generation of Swans remained: the new boat inherited her sleek hull and slender lines from the start. Her modern, fine entry forward and steeply raked bows followed on quickly, with the beamy flat sections aft providing yet another family resemblance to the new age of Swans. But Frers went further, stretching her waterline length and reducing her overhangs to make her as potent - yet seakind - as he thought appropriate. In the course of the building process, opportunities were taken to incorporate high-tech materials and lighter construction techniques. After two years of development and building for the first hull, many consider the Swan 56 to be one of the most powerful models in the range, with options for a high aspect ratio, deep draft bulb keel. She still retains her family values when it comes to cruising in comfort, style, and ease: the cruiser - racer version includes a more modest keel and rig configuration, and also several innovative layout options when it comes to her accommodation. With provision for up to 6 permanent berths - plus the option for a dedicated skipper's cabin - the Swan 56 offers a range of imaginative layouts.
