The style of the overhangs, and sheer cabin-trunk on the Morris 38 are typical of the designer, Chuck Paine. Tom Morris builds this boat with two interior layouts, the dinette arrangement and the tri-cabin arrangement. The sail plan is a modern sloop rig. The fore triangle is big enough to carry a staysail in most conditions. The spreaders are slightly swept aft allowing the cap shrouds to share a chainplate with the aft lowers. The buttocks on the hull are flat with the rocker further diminished by the addition of a skeg aft. The keel is a large planform fin. There are two keels available, standard and Scheel, both external lead. The Morris 38 has noticeably trim hull and cabin structure, all in gentle proportion. With moderate beam and very pleasing lines, this boat is capable of surprising performance.
