This is a complete package! A super cruising home.
Hallberg-Rassy is well recognized as one of the most well respected builders in Scandanavia, and they are certainly well recognized. Their quality of construction is second to none. The boats come with an CE Lloyds of London all ocean certification. While HR build’s yachts from 27 to 64 feet, the Hallberg Rassy 39 is a gem and is one of the best sailing HR’s ever. Designed by German Frers, the HR39 a thoroughbred. She's a great sailing, tough, bluewater boat with two staterooms and roomy accommodations. A lot of boat in a nice sized investment. We can say investment because they retain their value very well.
Hallberg Rassy built over 200 of the 39s, between 1991 and 2003, and this one is hull 162. There are many good reasons they sold so many HR39. First of all the HR39 is a seriously capable blue water boat. You will never find a 40 foot boat that gives you the magnificent layout of the HR39! The interior layout is magical. This is a boat that is completely and totally livable. The HR39 has two extremely generous double cabins and large head with a beautiful shower grate and deep sump. The galley works ingeniously and it is super safe in a seaway. The salon is nothing less than spacious. It is extremely comfortable and offers two great sea berths with lee cloths on the settees. She has a large sit down nav station; the ships office - or maybe your office. Storage is beyond generous with lockers, drawers, and under berth, and under and behind settees. It is possible to spend extended time aboard. Hallberg Rassy has been successful because the boat is just about as perfect as it gets.
So how does she sail? Well, she sails terrifically! A few years ago, a shorthanded HR39 was the second place boat in the ARC on corrected time. First place was a 45’ Outremer racing catamaran! Not only that, but she flat out beat many other larger boats, including and HR 46. Simply put, the Hallberg-Rassy 39 is a dream to sail. German Frers designed the boat to be quick and easily managed. The actual length on deck is 40’1” with a waterline of 32 feet. Beam of 12’4” and draft of 6’1” account for some of her wonderful sailing characteristics. With displacement of just over 22,000 pounds and ballast of 9,250 pounds her stability and comfort means the crew is fresher on arrival in port . At the same time she's lively and responsive. This vessel is a joy to sail. She strikes a great balance between nimble day sailer and proper long distance voyager, she is equally at home on the mooring ball with all the creature comforts or offshore with the safety equipment and ease of handling that will make for a well-rested crew when she makes landfall.
We are pleased to offer a lovely 2000 Hallberg Rassy 39 German Frers designed sloop. The original owners took delivery in Elos Swenden and sailed her across the Atlantic. She was shipped to San Francisco where she enjoyed the Bay Area until purchased in 2006 by her previous owners. They cruised the Pacific Northwest in a climate that boats seem to love. They cruised down the West Coast through the Canal. They spent time in the San Blas and arrived in Annapolis in June of 2011.
The current owner bought her on a Thursday and Saturday morning set sail for Tortola for the winter. From there to Bermuda, Newport and the coast of Maine. Sailed south to Sea island Georgia for the winter and then back to Newport and New England coast then as far north as Halifax in Nova Scotia. She has just returned to Annapolis for the spa treatment and is eagerly awaiting her next sail. Current owner taking a break before planning next long range voyage and wife says “sell first before you buy this time!” (yes, they are happily married)
The care this HR39 has had is top notch. Someone is going to get a really great boat. Enjoy the full specs. Pictures will be coming soon. But don't wait too long to call. She is a fabulous offering! We owned a Hallberg-Rassy ourselves and we can safely say that you will not be disappointed in this fine vessel!

What a beautiful boat! The Hallberg Rassy 39 is the biggest 39' boat you'll find. Headroom in the salon is 6'5" at least. There are two nice staterooms, with the comfortable aft master stateroom and a good sized V berth cabin forward. There is a large head and shower and incredible stowage. The spacious comfortable salon has an L shaped dinette to port has a lee cloth and is a perfect sea berth. The straight settee to starboard with lee cloth is also a wonderful sea berth. The traditional centerline drop leaf table provides a perfect dining table for six. The HR galley to starboard at the companionway is a superb offshore galley as we well know. We owned a Hallberg-Rassy ourselves. The sit down nav station to port is large and makes a great office at anchor or at sea. The walk though to the aft cabin is aft of the nav station on the port side there are two large storage lockers outboard of the walk though as well as the freezer. The master cabin aft is generous with a double berth to starboard and a curved settee to port with stowage aft and cabinets and lockers on both sides.
Hallberg-Rassy is recognized high quality joinery and for the lovely clean Scandinavian lines. The interior woodwork is all mahogany with a fine silky smooth matt finish. The cabin sole is of varnished teak with inlaid holly stripes, and of course it is in perfect condition as it is protected with brand new wall to wall carpeting throughout. Hallberg-Rassy is also known for carpeting that makes the boat cozy and easy to keep clean. The ceiling is fiberglass paneling with mahogany strips. The cushions are thick and comfortable over well ventilated boards to avoid condensation. There is amazing and well organized storage everywhere including under the settees and outboard. There are lovely cabin lights as well as reading lamps and courtesy lights and many of these are energy efficient LED. Designed as a good sea boat there are hand holds everywhere you need them. The ports and hatches have new curtains. Creature comforts include a real mattress on the aft double berth, cabin fans, 12 volt refrigeration, and a real separate deep freezer.
The cockpit is deep and comfortable with a Hallberg Rassy dodger and bimini, both with new durable Sunbrella fabric, folding boat chair cushions also with new covers of durable Sunbrella fabric, aft deck for fishing and showering, water access with removable stern boarding steps.

Galley & Plumbing
Hallberg-Rassy has created the best galley I've ever seen. It is truly the very best offshore galley. While it looks small at first, if you plan on passage making, you'll quickly realize that it is immensely functional. That is why Hallberg Rassy builds boats like this. The first time you have to cook in a seaway, the design becomes eminently clear. The galley is to starboard of the companionway so you can pass food and sustenance into the cockpit. There is good headroom and incredible storage in cabinets and drawers. The counters have fiddles so nothing slides off. The deep ice box refrigerator is super well insulated and the Isotherm 12 volt refrigeration works very well. The truly separate freezer is large and well insulated located just aft of the nav station on port. The double stainless steel sinks are extra deep and almost amid ship. The propane two-burner stove is gimbaled with fiddle rails and locking device for oven door. There are four drawers and places for everything including a built in trash bin.
The head is equally well designed. Located forward of the salon it is easily accessible without disturbing anybody. The bulkheads and lockers are finished in white laminate so they are easy to clean. The stall shower has a drain to a sump area so you are never standing in water. There is a teak grate over the sump. The wash basin is porcelain and has a separate mixer hose for shower use. Shower water drained by pump directly overboard without going into bilges. The standard marine toilet which was recently rebuilt has a strong, reliable pump and the holding tank is plumbed and can be emptied at sea or pumped out through the deck fitting at a pump out facility. There's good ventilation in the galley with an opening port and hatch. Headroom in the head is 6' 2".

Systems: Mechanical & Electrical Systems
The engine room on the Hallberg Rassy is magnificent. It is located under the cockpit accessed from the walkthrough to the aft cabin where there is a larger rubber sealed door to the well insulated engine room. It is a real engine room that houses the ships systems. All the mechanicals are located in this large engine room. The Volvo Penta MD22 engine is mounted with four rubber feet on strong foundations to avoid vibration and noise the new1.25 in stainless steel shaft turns a beautiful Gori three-blade feathering propeller and she retains her original prop in storage. She cruises at 7 knots easily because of the beautiful easily driven hull shape. The freshwater engine heated circuit is fills a 15 gallon hot water tank which is well insulated to stay hot for hours after the engine has been running. The engine is served by a separate 12 V battery. There is an extra large fresh water filter for the engine. And some very nice upgrades including dual Racor filters and fuel transfer pump. The emergency manual bilge pump is installed below decks where it can be used in extremely bad weather conditions. The Power Survivor 160 E water maker is also installed in the mechanicals room.
Electrically she is completely self sufficient either offshore or at the mooring ball as she has two 7.5 Kryocera 135 watt panels, and a new Air Breeze 2010 wind generator on a custom stainless steel arch.
