Price Reduced another $14,000. It does not take long to begin to feel comfortable when you first step aboard "Nonesuch". Everything about the boat reflects the owners desire to have a solid and reliable yacht with tasteful accomodations and user friendly equipment. At the same time it is a proper yacht with a pilothouse that is more than just functional with excellent visibility and equipment designed for long cruises.
The owner deliberately chose Benford Design and the Cascade Hull. The following is from their web sites:
From Benford Design: "Our custom layouts are designed for maximum utility and livability, often for smaller than normal crews. Our custom profiles are expressions of the individuality of the various owners and not the sort that will be in style today and out of style tomorrow."
From Cascade Yachts with more than 35 years in continuous fiberglass production: "the problem, if there is one, is that owner-builders tend to overbuild everything. But then the hulls are also overbuilt as well, laminated with 8 layers of 24 oz. woven roving below the waterline on the 29 and 12 layers on the 42. (The expression "bulletproof" is often bandied around, but 45 slugs really do bounce off these hulls, which have survived groundings and collisions that would have sunk lighter boats.)"
This is a very solid well thought out custom built yacht for a very discriminating owner. Lots of attention to detail, attractive and comfortable interior, spacious pilothouse, galley and salon, aft cockpit and comfortable lower cabin space. This is a very special yacht definitely worth taking the time to come and see.

This beautiful custom built Pilot House Yacht was built in St. Michaels, Md. for a very knowlegeable owner who was looking for a comfortable yacht to cruise with his wife and possibly another couple. He chose the Benford Design Group because of their reputation and dependability. The Cascade hull (Airex cored fiberglass) was built to be very solid and reliable. The finish work is very attractive and at the same time everything is easily accessible for cleaning, maintenance, or repairs. When you get aboard the boat you can see there was a lot of thought behind many of the decisions that were made in the construction of the boat.
The Pilot House has excellent visibility and the helm station is well laid out with excellent electronics for navigating in all kinds of weather. The Couch has a back which when facing aft is comfortable for cruising. With the couch back in the forward position, it becomes a seat back for the large Navigation Table. Under the couch are multiple drawers to store charts and other miscellaneous equipment.
The Main Salon is very open with the Galley on the port side with lots of open counter space, double sink, oven and 3 burner propane stove top with a counter cover to use when not cooking. There are plenty of cabinets and drawers for silverware, flatware and pots and pans. There are also windows on the port side to allow the chef a view outside while creating the next meal.
Across the teak and holly floor on starboard is a wrap around couch with a dining table with comforable seating for up to 6 people. Again are windows to allow a view outside. In the forward corner is an entertainment center with a flat screen tv set up as a dvd player (the KVH system is curently disconnected).
Down into the cabin area to Starboard there is a full size head with a seperate shower stall. There is a single sink and mirror, storage lockers above and cabinets underneath the counter. On the port side is a pullman guest cabin with bunk beds with a hanging locker forward and a shelf and drawers aft. The forward cabin has a large and comfortable offset double bed with a seat to starboard for changing and a hanging locker on port aft.
The open cockpit area can be surrounded by clear eisenglass and canvas to encloe the area and still allow the passengers to enjoy the outside vistas. It has wrap around seating and a cocktail table in the center. Doors open on starboard and port to step on or off. Under the seats are refrigerators for sodas and drinks or cold storage.
The engine room can be accessed either through the main cabin floor or through a hatch on the starboard side under the seat cushion. The Kohler generator is to starboard and there is plenty of room to work around the Yanmar 4JH2 engine.
On the upper deck is the mast which has an extended spinnaker pole as a boom for a steadying sail (never been used) or can be used as a davit to lift the dinghy on and off the upper deck. On either side are storage lockers and the propane locker. There is a stainless hand rail and canvas surrounding the entire upper deck to keep everything on board.
The designer, Jay Benford lives and works nearby and the people who finished the boat also are available for detailed questions.
