PRICE REDUCED $186,000!  THIS IS THE BEST BUY FOR A FAST CRUISER ON THE MARKET.  SELLER IS NOW ENJOYING HIS NEW BOAT IN THE CARIBBEAN AND SAYS "BRING OFFERS/TRADES CONSIDERED"

Conceived as the longest, fastest and safest cruising sailboat that a mature couple can comfortably sail and maintain with no additional crew, ELAINIUM has proven her design intentions with a decade of successful cruising from San Francisco to Panama, much of it double-handed.  Her first owner assembled a designer "dream team" of Alan Andrews for a sleek efficient and easily driven hull, and Robert Perry for a user-friendly, luxurious and bright interior and deck layout.  Her sailplan is easily controlled with Liesurefurl boom, electric-powered winches and furling code zero.  Light and responsive, she is the rare cruiser that is as much fun and as easy to day-sail as a dinghy -- her 70-year old owner frequently takes her out for single-handed day-sails in and around San Diego Bay.  Systems and finishes provide a high level of comfort and aesthetics without being complex or difficult to maintain.  Cruiseair air conditioning, Spectra watermaker, Splendide full-sized washer and separate dryer, Northern Lights genset, and Monitor windvane are just a few of the tried and true components wisely selected.   With a spacious interior aptly described as “beyond gorgeous,” ELAINIUM proves that one can have it all: elegance, speed, responsive sailing and ease of maintenance and operation.

From the owner:

ELAINIUM is a remarkable boat, because she is so much a sailing enthusiast's dream-boat, and yet has all the goodies and comfort and beauty and safety to satisfy the spouse (and the secret luxury-lover that actually lurks within most sailors, as well).  But it's the thrill of the helm, how she bends to the wind on a close reach, and how she just jumps up to 10 knots in a moderate breeze that is so exciting.   Every sailor who has ever taken the helm is immediately converted and resists relinquishing when it’s time.  It's that "wow!" factor that sets her apart from other cruising yachts. In fact, my mental test for any boat was: Would this boat be enough fun to sail that I would take her out for a daysail by myself just for the fun of it?  ELAINIUM is a great day-sailor and passagemaker, either singlehanded or with lots of friends and family.

On April Fools day I flew from Seattle to San Diego to photograph and take notes for selling ELAINIUM.   It had been five years since I sea-trialed ELAINIUM ex. ELYSIUM with my client, the current owner.  In late 2006 while searching far and wide for cruising yacht, my client was smitten with this large cruising sled and I was informed by his spouse “don’t try to talk us out of buying this boat,” as I had done with many of the other boats we had examined.  I was initially skeptical about the ability of a mature couple to sail and maintain such a large boat.  After a day aboard sailing and inspecting ELYSIUM my opinion changed.  She was indeed easy to sail.  Light displacement and a well conceived deck layout and sail handling systems made sailing a breeze.  Maintenance is always a concern and great attention was paid by the original owner and project manager to engineer and install very simple and easy to maintain equipment.  What I saw in 2006 was an impressive, well-maintained and appropriate boat for my clients.  Fast forward to April 2012…….  I was pleasantly surprised to find an even nicer yacht with many upgraded sails, systems, and cosmetics.  The slab reefing mainsail was replaced by Liesurefurl boom.  A furling code zero was fitted to improve light air performance.  New electronics including Raymarine chartplotters, AIS transponder, Autopilot, wifi amplifier and router have been installed.  The ultimate passagemaking crew member was sitting on the stern; a Monitor windvane.  New upholstery, new Tecma heads, new washer/dryer, new Aquapro dinghy and outboard, new refrigeration, refinished cabin sole, wire rope lifelines replaced by solid handrails, improved anchor windlass configuration, on and on to the tune of over $300K in upgrades and improvements.

ELAINIUM’s seller has removed his personal belongings and left behind much of the gear necessary to cruise long distance.  Pots and pans, galley ware, an extensive spare parts inventory, extra running rigging, spare blocks, paper and electronic charts from San Francisco to Panama, hardware in bins, sheets and pillows, jerry jugs and much more will convey to the new owner.   Joint replacements (4!) and mobility issues now require the seller to consider single level sailing/living.  A new catamaran has been ordered and will be delivered in France in August of 2012.  ELAINIUM has been attractively priced and will be aggressively marketed to eliminate or minimize the period of “two boat ownership.”  Any sailor considering the purchase of a Hylas, Sundeer, Kanter or other fast blue water capable cruiser would be well served to consider, view, and sail ELAINIUM.
