"Ten" is a fantastic J-160 (hull # 10) built by TPI and resin infused for an extremely strong and light hull and deck. The J 160 is an extremely successful large offshore cruiser / racer. They were all custom built to owners specifications.
No expense was spared during the build of "Ten" with every option selected and then many more custom options added. "Ten" is located in the Pacific Northwest and now available for immediate sale.
The J/160 is the perfect sailboat for yachting enthusiasts who enjoy the spacious accommodations of a large boat, but also the smooth sailing feeling of a smaller vessel.
The J/160 is unique among all yachts over fifty feet in providing exceptional sailing performance, upwind and down, with ease of handling normally associated with yachts under 45 feet. Unique also is the J/160's combination of a comfortable sea-going cruising interior, sturdy ABS-approved construction, and one of the safest and most stable yachts that modern technology can provide. The hull, keel, rudder, and sail plan interact to achieve the speed, balance and sailing comfort that knowledgeable offshore sailors expect in a modern, high performance design.
With nearly 11,000 satisfied owners world-wide, the J Boats brand enjoys a strong reputation for exceptional performance under non-overlapping headsails, single and double-handed ease of operation, minimum on-deck maintenance, luxurious accommodations, stunning aesthetics, and great value.
On top of being named “Sailing Boat of the Year” in 1997 by Sailing World, the J/160 has received critical acclaim from the most well-respected industry publications:
“Feels magical…[passengers will be] surprised by the comfort, spaciousness and luxury below.” -Yachting Magazine
“I love the profile of this boat. Note the strong sheerline and clipped overhangs coupled with a shapely cabintrunk. Side decks are very wide and the cockpit is big. The cockpit coamings are cut away aft to open up the entire deck area for the helmsman. All dimensions and proportions are on the svelte side, promising a boat that will sail extremely fast.” -Sailnet
“With this addition to the J/Series, they have outdone themselves in the attempt to give sailors all round performance with shorthanded capabilities.” -Canadian Yachting Magazine
“This boat gives modern sailors racing and cruising performance without requiring the burden of a large crew. On a more subjective level, all in a glance she is clean, simple, elegant, comfortable, fast and capable. With modern composite construction, a typically easily-driven J/Boat hull form and a very low center of gravity, the 160 needs less sail area for comparable performance than do other sailboats in the 50-foot-plus size range. This translates into lower winch loads, easier sail management, more relaxed cruising and racing.” -Cruising World
“The reasons for the J/160’s success as a dual-purpose boat can be found with an examination of the structure, joinery and systems. A close look reveals an almost custom level of quality in the workmanship. While J/Boats is known for the performance of its designs, it’s exciting to see them deliver custom yacht quality with this, the queen of the line.” -Sailing World
Advanced composite construction, an easily driven hull shape and a very low center of gravity results in noticeable differences in how J/160 performs compared to any other boat you may have sailed. Less sail is needed, winch loads are reduced, and the constant sail-changing of heavier displacement cruisers is avoided. This is a boat which 2-3 people can manage without reliance on powerful and heavy electro-mechanical devices.

Manufacturer Provided Description
The principals of the J Boats - TPI partnership have combined in this investment-grade sailing yacht more than 150 years of experience in building, designing and sailing the world's best sailboats. Advanced composite construction, an easily driven hull shape and a very low center of gravity result in noticeable differences in how the J-160 performs. Less sail is needed, winch loads are reduced, and the constant sail-changing of heavier displacement cruisers is avoided. J-160 is as easy to handle and sail as a traditional 42-footer. This is a boat which 2-3 people can manage without reliance on powerful or heavy electro-mechanical devices. The design mandate for the J-160 was to exceed all prior standards for a cruising yacht of this size. One had to feel a sense of joy and control at the wheel as the boat leapt forward in a gust of wind with power and stability. Putting the rail under or shortening the sail shouldn't happen under 20 knots of wind. The J-160 had to slide effortlessly through waves upwind, keeping the crew dry and leaving no signature quarter-wave. Running in seas, it had to slide with great directional stability and good forward buoyancy to ride up over waves ahead. The sail plan had to be manageable, versatile and balanced, yet powerful enough to stabilize motion in waves for a quantum improvement in sailing comfort at sea. As for esthetics, the J-160 is traditional in a functional and purposeful way. Short overhangs are combined with a smooth sweep of the sheerline and low freeboard to reduce wind resistance and facilitate boarding. The bow sections are flared to deflect waves downward, keeping the decks dry. The triple spreader rig conveys a graceful power, giving no hint of how easily it is managed. The interior is spacious, clean in execution, beautifully appointed and exquisitely finished, befitting a proper flagship. Every detail and need has been addressed in terms of provisioning, equipment and storage space for coastal and offshore cruising. The liveaboard comfort and styling of this yacht goes far beyond what you might expect from J Boats, whose reputation was first built in world-class racing. That racing heritage is an invaluable bonus when it comes to quality of construction and many years of problem-free ownership. The J-160 exceeds expectations, representing a significant step forward in quality construction and strength to weight ratios.
