Pooka is a very fast cruising open-bridgedeck catamaran designed by well known multihull designer Dick Newick. She was meticulously constructed by Peter Walsh of Argosy Marine in Westerly, RI. Peter is a graduate of the Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design in Kennebunkport, Maine.


Pooka has had but two owners. Her first owner's family of four cruised her at least six months of each year between Eastern Canada and the Bahamas. The current owners have cruised her seasonally in New England waters.


Pooka reflects her designer's philosophy of simplicity and seaworthiness. This approach is evident throughout the vessel. Her systems are easy to maintain and her accommodation plan is comfortable whether in port or at sea.
Pooka sleeps up to 7 persons in 5 single berths and one double berth.


The interior, while not palatial, has proven to be more than adequate for extended off shore blue water cruising. She also features a very large and comfortable cockpit, part of which is covered by a Bimini Top that provides shelter from the elements.


Pooka is a legitimate fast cruiser; capable of reaching speeds of over 20 knots. Her owner typically plans for 200+ nautical mile daily runs while on passage. This level of performance is achieved by a combination of low weight, low windage, exceptional underwing clearance, an efficient underbody, and very efficient rig.


Pooka is a boat for sailors who, first and foremost, appreciate a catamaran with fine sailing qualities. As a bonus, she has very attractive lines and has a practical cruising interior. She is at her best when efficiently, safely and comfortably eating up the miles on long ocean passages. Pooka is truly one of a kind sport cruising catamaran.
