ROSIE
ROSIE is one of the well-known L. Francis Herreshoff Rozinante ketches. Although Francis Herreshoff may be better known for other designs--his famous 75' clipper-bowed ketch TICONDEROGA that broke more ocean-racing course records than any other yacht, his breakthrough R-class yachts YANKEE and LIVE YANKEE, or his dominant, double-ended M-class ISTALENA--the Rozinante probably represents Francis Herreshoff's own personal philosophy more than any other. A remarkably good sailer in both light and heavy air, the Rozinante has an ergonomically superb cockpit that comfortably accommodates up to six, but she can also be single-handed with ease. This is one of the most pleasurable small yachts for day sailing and pocket cruising ever designed. ROSIE's hull was originally built a number of years ago, put in storage, and finally finished in 1996. She has many nice details, like her Port Orford cedar deck. (Nevins used decks like this on many S&S designs, such as BARUNA, to achieve elegant appearance with light weight.) ROSIE can be recommended as a desirable daysailer/pocket cruiser to anyone who wants a traditional Herreshoff yacht. June 2009: Reduced from $90,000. | ||
