A full history and build photographs are available. Designed and built by Carl H Höck in Cape Town, launched 1998. Spacious, practical interior with accom for 5 in 3 cabins plus pilot berths. Fully equipped for blue water cruising with ample tankage plus a unique rainwater catchment system.
Carl Höck was a German naval architect and ship/yacht builder with 40 years of practical experience. True to his ancestry he insisted on the very highest standards of workmanship with meticulous attention to detail and designed and built his boats to keep those in them safe in the worst of conditions. His yacht hulls carry rounded edges, compound curvatures and hull fairness which, when combined with modern coating systems to eliminate surface corrosion, ensure the security of investment.
This Höck 52 (marketed originally as a Nereide 157) was designed as a gaff ketch. Should a new owner wish to re-rig to the original gaff design and compete in Spirit of Tradition classes at any classic regatta, no changes would need to be made to ballast or hull as stability calculations and sail to displacement ratios were calculated for a gaff rig of steel lower masts, wooden top masts, spars and bowsprit. The present owners chose a Bermuda rig for ease of short-handed sailing.
