Reinke is a specialist German design company developing extremely practical yachts in steel and aluminium. This is an 11m deck-saloon model.
The concept is interesting in that, apart from the inland-waterways capability derived from the lowering mast and lifting keel, she is also designed to work well as a motor-boat, with the hull shape and large engine giving high speeds and good economy under power.
Filou 3 was built in 1994, possibly by a shipyard employee for himself. The quality of build and finish of interior joinery etc. is conversant with a yard-built boat. She has many interesting features, including a massive cockpit, and is certainly very different from a standard production yacht.
She has cruised on the Rhine, in Holland, on the Yorkshire Ouse & Ure up to Ripon canal. Also around the Western Isles of Scotland. A must-see for steel boat fans, she is also a very interesting prospect for anyone considering longer-distance cruising especially to areas where depth or air-draft may be an issue (French canals?).
