Built in 1990 by Bodmin Marine Steelcraft Ltd by John Van Der Veer. Steel hull with steel deck and encapsulated lead keel. All steel work to British Standard 43A quality. The hull steel work was grit blasted to Swedish standard SA0.5 and expoxy coated below and below the waterline. 316 stainless steel plating has been used for mounting all hatches and areas of heavy usage with galvanised steel toe rails.
The interior is fitted with Douglas fir frames, ply bulkheads and solid mahogany . Teak cockpit seats and floor.
Otaria has a half kength keel with a draft of 1.95m and a skeg hung rudder.
Whitlock cable wheel steering. Emergency tiller.
Engines & Electrics
Perkins Prima 50hp diesel engine with 3 bladed 19" dieameter bronze proeller and 1.25 inch shaft. 2 x 150 litre fuel tanks wtih separate pipe work, filters and switches. 75 amp engine alternator. Engine hours from new 1,745. Otaria will cruise comfortabley at about 6.5 knots using approximately 2.5 litres of diesel per hour with fuel capacity to cover approximately 600 nautical miles. 2 x WEMA fuel guages.
3 x 12 volt batteries with 143 amp/hour each. Sterling 50 amp 3 way charger. 2 way change over switch. 240 volt right main with 2 outlets, galvanic isolator and circuit breakers. 15 amp engine alternator. Sterling 350 watt inverter. Waeco Mobitronic amp and volt battery monitor.

Heads - located aft of the navigation area on the port side. Blakes Lavac sea toilet, hot and cold pressurised water to sink and shower. Deep stainless steel shower tray draining into a sump box with pump. The heads radiator is very large and dries wet weather gear quickly.
Galley - Double sink, SMEV 2 burner cooker with oven and grill. Coolmatic CB 40 litre fridge/freezer. Extensive stowage in cupboards and drawers. Standing headroom with 2 x Lewmar deck hatches.
Aft cabin - comfortable aft cabin with ample stowage. Lockers, draws and hanging locker. Access to engine room, ster locker and sail lcoker. Lewmar deck hatch.
Water tanks and heating - 1 x 50galllon stainless steel water tank. 3 x 50 gallon integral steel water tanks. Vetus hot and cold pressurised water systems 30 PSI header tank. Water is heated via 45 litre calorifier by engine cooling and boat heating system. Eberspacher Hydronic D5W diesel fired central heating with hot air outlet in fore cabin and radiators in the heads, saloon and aft cabin. Manual and electric bilge pumps.
Gas locker - Self contained steel vented gas and flammable fuel locker capable of storing enough gas and fuel bottles for a long distance passage.
