Many of you have read our write-ups of our Valiant offerings, and know our passion and our extensive knowledge of these famous, ocean proven yachts from the drawing board of our dear friend, the well-known yacht architect, Bob Perry. Each yacht is beautiful and world sailing capable, but never have we seen a one-owner, lightly used Valiant 40’ so lovingly cared for by a well-known, retired yacht surveyor, as you will see when you inspect this fabulous offering of the Valiant 40, “PROMISE”
FINALLY, a LATE MODEL TEXAS BUILT VALIANT 40’ has come on the market for all of the cruisers who realize the GREAT VALUE of a lightly used VALIANT 40 and the economics of the market today! WHY BUY A NEW BOAT, when a yacht such as “PROMISE” is available TODAY? “PROMISE BOASTS A CLASSIC VALIANT PEDIGREE.
Lightly cruised from the Chesapeake to New England and one trip to the Bahamas and offered by HER ORIGINAL OWNER. “PROMISE” is homeported on the Chesapeake Bay at the owners’ private dock in front of his home AND OF COURSE, “PROMISE” IS A NEW GENERATION VALIANT 40’ AND WAS BUILT WITH A FACTORY BLISTER RESISTANT EPOXY BARRIER COAT.
“PROMISE” is in classic yachting fashion, loved, and so very well taken care of and she is equipped for extensive cruising and a gracious and elegant life for the liveaboard sailor.
The VALIANT 40 is the boat that “wrote the book” on shorthanded, transoceanic passagemaking. VALIANT Yachts are the standard for performance offshore cruising, by which all others are judged. “PROMISE’S” sistership, Mark Schrader's VALIANT 40 "Resourceful" was the FIRST AMERICAN BOAT to singlehandely circumnavigate via the five Southern Capes. There have been more major shorthanded and singlehanded transoceanic passages, including circumnavigations, aboard VALIANT Yachts, than any other line of yachts ever built!!! The listing agent will be happy to discuss these statistics, which he knows well, as well as all other aspects of “PROMISE”.
“PROMISE” is now on the brokerage market, by her ONLY OWNER and she is a perfect example of a classic Perry offshore yacht. Her classic Valiant lines incorporate a tumble home stern, bulwarks, dorades, opening ports, oversize rigging and quality construction and has all of the attributes seen as important, in a long-distance voyaging sailboat.
The Valiant 40 is a modern classic. Performance has become synonymous with Valiant and is in no small way responsible for its success. SAIL Magazine selected the Valiant 40 as the ”Offshore Cruiser of the “Decade”, and Valiant’s induction into the Sailing Hall of Fame.
TIME TO QUIT DREAMING…YOU CAN GO SAILING TO ALL THOSE TROPICAL ISLANDS, STARTING TODAY!!! THERE ARE GREAT ADVENTURES AWAITING YOU, ONBOARD YOUR NEW YACHT, the Valiant 40’ named “PROMISE”.
Look over this listing and then start planning your cruise!!! No words can replace actually seeing her, so call TODAY to arrange a viewing, you will NOT be disappointed!!

ACCOMODATIONS AND LAYOUT
“PROMISE” sleeps up to eight people in accommodations with the V-Berth, main salon settees, main salon pipe berths and the Captains quarter berth cabin. Like all Valiant Yachts, the main salon settees and the quarter berth make excellent offshore sleeping quarters. The interior of the Valiant 40’ is dry, bright, comfortable and well ventilated with 10 opening ports with screens, 4 Bomar Aluminum hatches, (3-large, opening hatches in Galley, Main Saloon and V-berth, 1-smaller opening hatch in aft stateroom) mushroom type ventilator over the V-berth and a large companionway hatch and 2 S.S. dorades with S.S. dorade guards.
“PROMISE” is styled with the heritage of the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations and finished in teak. Custom built cabinetry and features throughout this beautiful yacht, far exceed the standard layout of this much sought after traditional, side entry Valiant, with the Captains quarters in the port double aft quarter berth.
The interior of “PROMISE” features the traditional tri-cabin layout with large forward and aft staterooms and a spacious central salon. The main salon is open and inviting with large settees, providing for comfortable berths at sea, a wide sole and numerous stowage areas. The overhead is Formica panels with teak battens for ease of installation and inspection of below deck fittings.
Most forward and aft of the teak chain locker door, you will find the V-berth with filler cushion, storage lockers to port and starboard and storage under the V-berth. There is a large opening hatch above the berth, plus a mushroom type ventilator, opening screened ports and a 12 volt Hellafan for EXCELLENT ventilation. Just aft of the berth, to starboard, there is a lowboy dresser with formica top and a double doored storage cabinet over. The forward cabin is closed off by a classic arched, hinged in the middle, folding teak door.
Next aft to port is a large head, with ensuite offset shower area with Electrasan head and aft is an oval S.S. sink with hot and cold pressure water, teak cabinets over and under, a large teak trimmed bulkhead mounted mirror with teak safety grab rail below. Ventilation is excellent, with 2 opening ports in head. Directly across and to starboard is a large, full length hanging lockers with bookshelves over plus overhead mushroom vent . There is a screened opening port to starboard. Locker doors have louvered vents for air circulation or are vented with “finger-holes”.
To Port in the main saloon, you will note a sea berth above the settee and a lower settee with pipe berth over and on the Starboard side there is a settee, with a bookcase and TV behind. The bookcase area can easily be put back into a pilot berth configuration, as the owner has the mattress, extension canvas and roller bar, in storage.
Her teak main saloon table is the much sought after, traditional, fix mounted, with fold-up leaves to accommodate guests both Port and Starboard and features two storage areas in the center top. There is a large opening hatch just above the dining room table. She is a modern version of the famous “traditional layout” Valiant 40’ which has taken more sailors on circum-navigations, than any other production yacht.
All settees are covered with a lovely light “wheat” colored ULTRA SUEDE and you will note beautiful teak & holly sole throughout.
Aft of the main salon and to starboard is a proper offshore, forward facing navigation station and chart table with tremendous room for the full complement of navigation and electronic equipment for easy use while navigating. The large nav table has a bottom hinged door, and above and outboard, room for the additional electronic navigation and communication equipment.
Just aft of the nav station and directly across from the galley are two large lockers, one a pantry with shelves which provides a tremendous amount of space for provisions and the other a hanging locker, perfect for foul weather gear. There is storage space above lockers. There is a teak and holly grate here, at the base of the companionway, so catch all the water that can come in with wet foul weather gear.
Aft of the main salon and to port, is the classic “wrap around” “U” shape configured, offshore safe galley, that will delight the gourmet, whether at sea or dockside. There is generous cabinet & counter space, 3 galley drawers, 2 lockers under the sink, 1 large deep stainless steel sink and 1 large shallow stainless steel sink, 4 burner, gimbaled stainless steel propane stove with oven and broiler and storage under, hot & cold pressure water, and galley foot pump for salt and fresh water, double large cabinet over the sink and a teak overhead wine glass storage, teak towel rack. Over the galley is a large opening screened hatch and an opening port outboard, for light and ventilation.
Next aft to port is the Captains aft cabin. There is a double berth with massive storage under, dressing seat, with lockers above. The aft stateroom also has excellent ventilation provided by a screened overhead hatch and 2 opening ports, plus fans in the Captains berth.
”PROMISE” is highly customized and styled with the heritage of the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations; bright, well ventilated and finished in furniture quality teak. The overhead is drop-down Formica panels with teak battens for ease of equipment installation and inspection of below deck fittings.
She has superior ventilation below, is extremely bright and cheery with a hand rubbed and oiled teak interior which is offset by Off-white Formica on countertops and house cabin sides, accented with teak trim and off-white Formica overhead enhances the lightness below. All ports and hatches have screens. She is a modern version of the famous “traditional layout” Valiant 40’ which has taken more sailors on circumnavigations, than any other production yacht.

The large and comfortable cockpit is self bailing with oversized scuppers, designed for safety and comfort in heavy weather sailing. Excellent visibility from all positions is consistent with the proven offshore features and capabilities that the sailing world has come to know as “generic” to a Valiant yacht.
