Construction
The hull of the Ericson 38 is constructed of a solid composite of fiberglass and resin although some core material is used in some flat sections above the waterline to add stiffness without excessive weight. The Ericson 38 utilizes an elaborate system of high strength fiberglass fabric and high-density foam to form a structural grid of transverse floors and longitudinal stringers. The grid is bonded to the hull throughout the bilge. Components such as keel, engine beds, mast step, structural bulkheads and rigging loads are all connected to the grid, resulting in a very rigid and strong structure. The deck structure is a molded fiberglass composite with core throughout. There is a molded fiberglass toe rail.
The decks are well laid out and feature substantial deck hardware that is well secured with backing plates. There is an anchor locker forward and rigging shrouds are well inboard for easy passage fore and aft.

Accommodations
Designed as a high performance cruiser, the Ericson 38 radiates a feeling of sleek, graceful motion. The rig is tall, for excellent speed in light to moderate winds. Aerodynamically superior double spreaders also create a narrow shroud base which abets weatherly performance by favoring the sheeting angle. Mast, boom, winches, halyard systems and standing and running rigging are configured for short crew sailing.
The main salon is an outstanding environment for socializing, but when the day is over, the dinette can be made into a third double bunk.
In the galley, there is a 3 burner gimballed propane stove and oven, a 6-cubic-foot icebox, a tilt-out storage bin, tilt-out trash locker, a large dry goods locker and a huge custom sink.
The forward stateroom is a double v-berth, with a private changing area and seat, also a teak door for privacy. Two hanging lockers, outboard storage shelves and drawers under the berth. The aft stateroom is also a double berth, equipped with a large hanging locker, and a spacious changing area, for privacy another teak door. The head aft is a large compartment with a separate shower stall and head, mirror, toiletries compartment with shelves and a shower curtain. Hot & cold water pressure in shower. It also has a cleaning gear locker with a formica bulkhead for easy clean-up. The main salon is to port with starboard settees. A solid teak dinette table coverts for sleeping. Large port and starboard lockers with teak doors. Utility storage shelves above lockers with teak rails.
