Not content to build better boat, Beneteau began its lead in yachting design with their First Series of boats. They blended marble and mahogany, halogen and steel. They began the intensive use of computers to join with their experienced craftsmen to produce these most sophisticated boats in the world at their time. They began a march of innovation which has led them to the dominant yacht builder that they are now. The "S" series of First sailboats was been created by an inspired combination of talents. The "S" is for Starck. An internationally renowned designer and interior architect, he styled the kind of below-decks environment not seen before. This 35s5 not only is comfortable at sea, it flies, thanks to the technical genius of Jean Berret. Its performance is attested by the current owner’s 3rd place in the 2011 Harvest Moon Regatta. Jean Berret designed the 35s5 and 32s5 to achieve performance as breathtaking as their appearance. A computer-assisted hull design enhances reaching speed and power upwind. An innovative 7/8 fractional rig that needs no running backstays improves balance and maneuverability. And spectacularly clean decks are the result of ingenious details like a patented flush-deck chainplate and, on the 35s5, covered aft-led halyards. What innovations are achieved above decks, it surpasses below. Sleek lines and sensuous curves transform the interior into a breathtaking blend of traditional and modern. The warm gleam of mahogany contrasts with the cool sheen of brushed stainless steel and aluminum. Daylight steaming through generous windows is outshone only by the brilliance of LED lights throughout the cabin. Perfect design is found even in the smallest details. Window blinds are built into grab rails, and marble graces the galley. Bulkheads look like sculpture, with elegantly bowed doorways. Even the edge of the dining table is not too mundane to be beautiful. No nuance of style, no aspect of performance has been overlooked. A marriage of fine craftsmanship and race-proven technology has resulted not merely in sailboats. The result is performing art. | ||
