Boat spent 20 years as a dock Queen in the northern Chesapeake Bay area prior to moving to FRESH Water Lake Champlain. Boat has taken 2 trips south along East Coast to Bahamas.
Owner is moving on.
Vessel is well equipped for another trip south - bring all offers!!!
This boat was extensively refit in the last 5 years with over $50,000 worth of replaced and new equipment to guarantee the peace of mind and comfort of the owners, whether on their weekend outings or their travels to the Bahamas and Florida.
The 44HP Yanmar engine has a very convenient 12 volt fuel pump that you will love when changing filters as it makes priming a snap.
Sound construction, voluminous storage capacity, seaworthiness and comfort are the prime virtues of the Island Packet 38.
The 38 boasts 100% hand laid fiberglass construction. The hull was molded in one piece with strong triaxial glass that was unified with a molded interior grid structure. The laminated deck is cored with a synthetic material nearly impervious to rot. All deck hardware was trough bolted and backed with aluminum plates. The deck is attached to the hull flange with bolts, lock nuts and adhesives.
The 38 has a very roomy cockpit with a full canvas enclosure which can easily sleep 2 on the new and comfortable 3 inch dryfit cushions. A custom made larger teak folding table and railing BBQ will make dinner time a happy event. The owners also added a teak swim platform with retractable ladder for easier boarding and easy access to the dinghy.
The bimini hardware/dinghy davits has been reinforced to accommodate over 480 Watts of solar panels with an MPPT controller allowing full electrical independence with a minimum of management. Most light bulbs were also replaced with high quality LED nav and anchor lights on the outside as well as Sensibulb LED interior bulbs. Additional removable insulation and a new compressor was added to the built-in galley fridge/freezer.
Spaciousness is a key word aboard the 38. Headroom tops out at 6 feet 4 inches. Large staterooms are located fore and aft of the even more spacious saloon with its IP trademark folding table. The forward pullman style bunk has a very comfortable inner spring mattress while the aft bunk boasts a 5 inch latex mattress as the previous owners took their comfort and sleep very seriously.
There are two heads, but the owners have maximized the space in the forward one by removing the toilet and making this area an extension of the fore stateroom. This maximizes the space as a shower stall and bathroom vanity. The aft toilet was replaced with an electric toilet and all water and waste tanks and hoses were replaced in 2012 and 2014.
The owners have also replaced the usual boat water heater with a propane unit offering low consumption with on demand continuous hot water. Finally a Webasto heating system with controlled vents in the cabin and the cockpit, was installed to extend the sailing season.
Over 13 opening ports, 4 dorades and 6 hatches guarantee proper ventilation in almost any condition.
All sails were replaced in 2012 and are still like new. In addition to the well thought-out design of the boat, all important control lines are lead back to the cockpit for safe and easy handling. Both forward sails are on Harken roller furlers and the fully battened mainsail’s two (2) deep reefs were improved with a block system and spectra lines were added for super smooth and easy operation even in severe conditions.
The low consumption- low maintenance Alpha Marine autopilot was added also in 2012 to make the boat a breeze to control even singlehandling in difficult conditions.
