C&C Yachts have long been a strong proponent in the belief that the one essential element for enjoyable cruising is a performance capable yacht. The C&C 38 was designed as a sleek and swift racer/cruiser that would deliver more competitive excitement and cruising pleasure for its size than any other C&C before her. The designers were extremely successful in achieving their goals with the C&C 38 MkIII and, as an individual example, Avalanche is definitely no exception.

C&C improved their design with this 38 Mark III by increasing the waterline which maximizes the effective sailing length when heeled, thus enhancing an already formidable reaching ability. Buoyancy was moved slightly forward to reduce any tendency to nose down when heavily pressed. At the same time, this shift in underwater volume helped to eliminate the handling difficulties that plague other performance boats at high angles of heel. Her very fine entry and flat chines reduce wetted surface, decrease the resistance, and allow her to move cleanly and sure-footedly through the water. A deep sump and keel place the lead far under the water, increasing her balance and stability, and with the addition of a triple spreader mast for a 41 C&C rig, the oversized rod rigging and an extra-weighted wing keel, Avalanche is exceptionally well-balanced to allow superb pointing ability and unparalleled speed. Avalanche is capable of 10 knots on an easy reach.

Her sole owners used their extensive sailing and racing experiences and applied some well thought-out upgrades and additions for performance, comfort and ease of handling. Below decks is totally uncompromised luxury and comfort. With 6'3" headroom, a nice wide beam and large opening ports and hatches, Avalanche is bright and airy and exceptionally well appointed. With sleeping accommodations for 7 adults and seated dining for 8, there is ample party room below decks, or plenty of room to just relax. The fully equipped galley boasts deep double sinks, a large refrigerated ice box with a good sized freezer, a Force 10 triple burner range and oven, a built-in microwave and abundant sea kindly cupboards and storage areas. The open concept allows easy conversations with anyone on board.

Although Avalanche is set up for comfort in cruising, she has been used 4-5 times per year for club racing and some long-distance races. In addition to her full compliment of cruising sails listed, there is a racing main, Mylar genoa and spinnaker available as an extra.

Whether your intention is to race, or cruise the islands, Avalanche will perform as the thoroughbred that she is, taking you in style anywhere the wind blows you.
