Classic lines and all updated systems in 2010/2011 make this a valuable and distinctive cruising yacht for the discerning sailor. Teak and fine finishes throughout for comforts for family and guests.
VALHALLA comes from the board of William Garden NA, renowned Naval Architect, and a lifetime resident of the Pacific Northwest. Bill drew the lines for the PORPOISE series in the sixties and Robin Fung built them in teak at his yard in Hong Kong. Robin ceased production in the early seventies.
Ernest Chamberlain, an Englishman, arrived in Taiwan at about that time, and started BLUE WATER YACHT BUILDERS in the North of the Island. Ernest built several more PORPOISE ketches in teak before deciding to build in fiberglass. This version was lengthened from 44 to 47 feet on deck, and re-named the VAGABOND.
Between 1972 and 1990 Ernest’s BLUE WATER constructed more than three hundred of the VAGABOND series – each and everyone of them a little or a lot different according the to the preferences of his customers. What sets the VAGABOND 47 apart from the rest of the crowd is her distinguished pedigree, salty lines, her comfortable motion at sea, the high levels of quality and comfort achieved, and her interior joinery work. Ernest produced around 250 of these wonderful yachts before he retired to Gibralter. BLUE WATER, under new management, continued to build the VAGABOND much as Ernest did, until production of the VAGABOND 47 ceased around 1990. These splendid vessels have accomplished an extraordinary number of voyages, many have circumnavigated, and their reputation as a robust, reliable and safe cruising yacht is legendary.
VALHALLA was designed and conceived as a completely customized yacht, right from the start. She enjoys more robust scantlings for even greater safety, and she is laid-out for the maximum comfort of the owner or charterer and his party with double berths fore and aft. Her equipment list is detailed and extensive with refrigeration, air-conditioning, and dive-compressor to name but a few. Nothing about VALHALLA is old-fashioned except her silhouette – she boasts the best of spars and sails, large diesel engine, a full suite of modern navigation and communications equipment, a sumptuous and unique interior designed for entertainment and relaxation, and the range and storage capacity to permit the most ambitious voyages.
