Sabre 38 Keel Centerboard

Princess is a 1987 38' Sabre sloop, classic layout, in near-new condition. She is a one-owner boat. Her hull and cabin have just been compounded and waxed, the bottom freshly painted and the teak done (fall 2011). She has been thoroughly detailed inside and has a large inventory of parts. She is ready to sail south!

Princess is beautifully configured for cruising, sailing to new harbors and entertaining friends and family. With her shallow draft and centerboard for deep-draft sailing, she can cruise most anyway you'd like to go from Maine and Nova Scotia to the Keys and the Bahamas. But perhaps she'd be most in her element exploring the tributaries and byways of the mighty Chesapeake Bay and reaching out across those wide waters with a few whitecaps scattered about. Don't be surprised, she'll really move! And she's a snappy sailor in light airs too.

Her salon is roomy and her dedicated Nav station keeps the serious business of plotting courses and studying charts separate from the dining table and the galley area. Her interior is finished in oiled teak, which creates an inviting "ship's cabin" feeling about her. Large overhead hatches and cabin windows bring in plenty of light and allow you to keep Princess aired out nicely. There are ample lockers for gear and two large bookshelves for volumes of cruising guides, pilot books and classic sea stories from Slocum and Voss to Dame Ellen MacArthur.

For accomodations, she is ideally suited for a cruising couple. She has a large V-berth forward (with the filler board and cushion this is a double berth) and a quarter berth to starboard for a friend or couple to come along, or crew to help out on longer passages. For a fun get together, she'll seat eight for dinner in the salon (a modification from the original six) and her settees convert to additional berths for three, a double to port and a single to starboard. She can sleep seven, but her large cockpit would allow for an adventurous spirit or two to sleep out under the stars on a summer's night and increase that number to 8 or 9.

Princess's galley is ideally suited to cruising or entertaining in port. Its U-shape gives the cook plenty of hand holds and hip or knee brace supports in a sea and ample counter space to work with. There is a large refrigeration unit, a gimballed stove and oven, a deep pan locker, and she comes equipped with a full set of dishes and utensils - literally ready to sail away.

The head is convenient to both the forward cabin and the main salon and has plenty of lockers, a vanity sink and mirror and a stall shower.

And the 38hp Westerbeke engine (repowered up from a Westerbeke 33hp in 1994) remarkably has only 400 hours on it and drives a PYI 3-blade Max Propeller.
