Goshawk a CT65 was designed by the American designer Robert Perry and it is typical with the clipper bow and cutter rig ketch. Built in Taiwan she is lavishly fitted out in teak with much of it in solid teak. The lay out is for 4 guests cabins each with on suite shower and heads, and 2 crew cabins one with shower and heads. The galley is separate from the main saloon which will seat up to 16. The main dining table will seat 10 for meals.
To the best of my knowledge there are only 4 of these yachts were built with the pilot house. The yachts that were made specifically for the Caribbean market were flush decks and from my experience the pilot house not only protects the crew in bad weather during a sail. but is a lovely place to be when, at anchor when the sun is setting and the anchor is laid in a secure bay, and the view is and company are delightful.
I bought Goshawk in 2007 after two visits to Germany and waiting until I sold the 50’ yacht I had at that time. The German, was an owner of hairdressing outlets, partially retired, in and around Keil and as he became older felt less able to sail so Goshawk, then named Toloa Nueva, was sold to me. I am the third owner, the first being a Dutchman who owned her for approx ten years and likewise with the German owner. Only used for private use by both these owners with the first doing a round the world trip in that time and the second going down for a time in the Mediterranean but latterly keeping the yacht in his home port of Keil. He did trips to Poland, Sweden and Denmark.
I was looking for the ideal yacht to meet a contract to supply teambuilding facilities based around sailing, for a large multinational company. I needed to handle ten participants, and two professional crew. Goshawk was one of the few yachts that meet this with the level of comfort for the less willing manager pressed to attend. Corporate entertaining was another area we had to consider as this happened from time to time. Indeed we spent some time in the Mediterranean doing corporate work. Unfortunately this work was cut back and together with a health problem I currently have, I am forced into placing this craft on the market for sale.
During the operation of the yacht I had professional crew and a qualified marine engineer all working on the yacht both during the season and the winter off season when no sailing was undertaken.
I had a new engine and generator set fitted in the first year with a view to a long term ownership. These were carried out by the local Perkins agent based in Ardrossan. In 2008 we fitted a new anchor windlass and new battery chargers both 24v and 12 volt. New sailing instruments were fitted in 2009 and 2010 saw the purchase of a new mainsail and mizzen in Hydranet fabric. Although we own the two Viking 8 man life rafts we have found that hiring is cost effective when we are chartering, and in 2009 we started this so the Viking rafts are not in service. We have just had the dinghy, a lovely light, alloy bottomed RIB, refurbished to look like a new tender. This is an unusual RIB, with the alloy hull made by DBS in Germany and it greatly reduces the weight on the davits. Ongoing repairs, service and maintenance were carried out by my fully experienced team.
