Irwin 34 Walk Through
La Papillon is accessible from the transom rail gate and/or the port and starboard sides. Initial entry is into the cockpit that features the helm station. Access to the main cabin is through the cockpit and cabin hatchway. To starboard is a C-shaped galley. To port is the navigation station and aft quarter berth. Mid cabin has the dinette to port and sette to startbord. Forward is the master cabin V-berth and main head.
Irwin 34 Cockpit
The cockpit consist of u-shaped bench seating around the helm station. There is ample storage beneath the seats for charts (port side), supplies (starboard side), propane locker (starboard aft) and anchor and safety equipment (helm seat).
The focal point of the cockpit is the helm station, wheel and table. The helm station includes the compass, autopilot, stereo controls and engine controls.
There are two cockpit stereo speakers imbedded in the port and starboard bench seats.
To starboard side of the cockpit is the shore power connection, two winches. and the life ring.
To port side is a single winch.
Aft of the cockpit is the swim ladder.
Forward of the cockpit is the salon access with sail lines and winches to starboard of the salon hatch.
The cockpit is completely covered by a Bimini top that is in very good condition.
Irwin 34 - Salon
The salon area consists of the galley (to starboard), navigation station (to port) with the dinette and sette located mid cabin. The dinette converts to a double berth while the sette converts to a single berth. There is also a quarter berth aft the navigation station.
The Salon cushions have been completely redone with new foam and upholstery that brightens up the interior nicely. The V-berth cushions are also origanal and are still in great condition.
The flat screen TV is mounted on a swing arm above the sette.
The navigation station includes a marine radio (with spare hand held), stereo speakers, and electrical control panel. There is additional storage under the table top and under table cabinets.
All of the portals have been replaced with Vetus opening ports that are in very good condition.
There are multiple floor panels to access the bilge throughout the vessel.
Irwin 34 - Galley
The C-shaped galley is well sized and offers a nice layout.
Galley features include:
- 3 burner cooktop (propane) and oven
- Stainless steel sink
- Prep area
- Ice box
- Cutting board
- Coffee maker
Storage consists of cabinets behind the oven and has 1 cabinet and 3 drawers below the sink.
There is also a custom dish drawer aft of the oven.
The galley also features 2 portals.
Irwin 34 - Accommodations
Accommodations include the forward double V-berth, single sette berth and double dinette berth mid-cabin and the single aft quarter berth.
The master V-berth has a hanging locker, 2 cabinets and 3 drawers to port. There is also a single portal to port, 2 to starboard and an overhead hatch. To starboard is access to the head.
The dinette table drops down to make a large double berth. There are custom made short legs to switch with the long regular table legs that make this a very stable berth. Above the dinette are 3 portals and a single overhead hatch.
The single sette berth has 2 portals above and the flat screen TV forward.
The single quarter berth is located aft of the navigation station.
Irwin 34 - Head & Plumbing
The single head is located forward port side. All of the plumbing has been replaced including the holding tank, All of the lines are Vetus high quality. There is a Y-valve for overboard discharge (with Gusher lever pump.) or deck pump out. A new Manual head unit was installed in 2015.
In addition, a new water heater was installed in the fall of 2015.
Two new thru hulls were installed and are associated with the new head compartment sink drain that was replaced in 2014. The second thru hull installed is associated with the engine intake and was replaced at last haul out in 2013. Both thru hulls are Flanged Bronze with 1/4" thick fiberglass backing plates.
Irwin 34 - Sails & Equipment
New custom sails were purchased from Mack Sails in Florida in 2014.
Sails and equipment upgrades include:
- Full batten Main with 2 reef point.
- New Mainsail stack pack cover that allows you to drop the sail and then zip the pack closed, quick and easy.
- 150 % Genoa
- New Harken roller furler and headstay at time new sails were installed.
- The cabin top standard winch was replaced with a NEW Lemar self tailer in 2015.
- Main Halyard new in 2014
- Genoa Halyard new in 2014
- Spinnaker Halyard new in 2014
- Custom Boom Vang by Garhauer Marine in 2013.
The new suite of sails and furler with headstay represent a $7000 value.
Irwin 34 - Electronics
Electronics include the following:
- Lowrance HDS7 chart plotter with depth sounder that can be linked to auto pilot and radar and set up on a network)
- Ray Marine wheel pilot auto helm.
- Horizon Intrepid Marine Radio
- Samsung flat screen TV
- Multifunctional stereo system with interior and exterior speakers (West Marine).
Irwin 34 - Mechanical
The engine system consists of a fresh water cooled Yanmar 3gm30f 27 hp. The boat cruises economically at around 5.2 Knots. Upper end speeds are 5.8 - 6 knots.
Oil has always been changed in the fall and mid summer. Fuel filter have been changed each year.
The motor mounts were replaced approximately 6 years ago by the Yanmar dealer in Annapolis.
Irwin 34 - Electrical
The electrical system includes
- Three Deep cycle interstate Batteries that were newly installed in 2013 and make up the main house bank.
- A single battery is the second bank used for the starting battery.
Factory push button breakers have been replaced with Blue Seas toggle switches and the wiring behind the Navigation Panel have been upgraded to include fuse blocks.
