Designed by Julian Everett and built by Horizon Marine the Copland 28 is an ideal fast family cruiser providing 6 berths in 2 cabins plus saloon while having a good turn of speed for those who want some extra excitement. Well maintained with sails in "very good" condition and an engine replaced in 2010. Hydraulic lifting winged keel gives 1m minimum draft when raised and she comes with a yard trolley for storage ashore. A small rib may be available by separate negotiation.

Shore power inlet
The hull and deck are constructed from fibreglass with white gelcoat. Integral non slip surfaces provide security while moving around the generously sized deck area. The inboard siting of the shrouds leaves a clear passage to the foredeck and the twin steel guard wires will help to keep you safe while out and about.
The large self-draining cockpit has a spacious storage locker on the port side alongside a dedicated gas locker housing a single propane bottle. A third "locker" covers a skylight above the aft double cabin.There is a large self-draining anchor locker in the bow and the deck is finished with an anodised aluminium toe rail.
A winged lifting keel reduces the draft to just under a metre when raised allowing shallower areas to be explored. The keel is raised and lowered via a manually operated hydraulic system mounted in a cockpit locker. The keel was serviced in 2016.
A new Yanmar IGM 10 (9hp) diesel engine was installed in 2010 which should ensure many years of trouble free use. This drives a two bladed folding propeller. There are two batteries for engine and domestic use (replaced 2017). These are charged via the engine and also by solar panel when the motor is not in use.

Sails and Rigging
The Sea Teach furling genoa and Plastimo reefing system were newly installed in 2009. The UV strip was renewed in 2016. The battened mainsail by Goacher was new in 2010 along with a new lazy-jack bag making reefing and sail storage a breeze. Both sails are said to be in "very good" condition.
All lines are led aft reducing the need to leave the safety of the cockpit. Twin winches and jamming cleats mounted on the coachroof make for sail easy management. A second pair of winches dedicated to the furling genoa are mounted well inboard on either side of the companionway allowing sail handling from behind the shelter of the sprayhood. The main-sheet runs on a traveller mounted mid cockpit.
There is a conventional spinnaker the age of which is unknown but the sail is said to be in "very good" condition.

Accommodation and layout
The Copland 28 will accommodate 6 in two cabins plus saloon berths.
The saloon is entered via the companionway steps which when removed allow access to the engine compartment behind. Immediately to port is the heads compartment which includes a sea toilet with holding tank for lake usage, a sink with hand pumped cold water, a mirror and generous storage including wet locker.
To starboard is access to the aft cabin. Additional light for the cabin is provided by opening the false locker cover in the cockpit. As well as housing the double berth with storage under, the cabin also includes the chart table with 3 x 12 volt sockets, the electrical panel and control for the propane heating system. The twin battery system for engine and domestic supply is located here as is the control unit for the solar charger, a carbon monoxide alarm and battery isolator.
The galley has a gimbal mounted gas oven with twin hob, twin stainless steel sinks with foot pumped cold water and an assortment of storage. Mounted on the front of the galley is a set of circuit breaker protected mains sockets which link to shore power when available.
The folding dining table is built around the keel box and hydraulic lifting system. Saloon seating for 6 also provides two single births, one full length and one incorporating a trotter box. Again there is generous storage under and behind the saloon seating as well as a flexible fresh water tank.
The fore-cabin has a v berth with removable infill and a large amount of storage under. The fore-hatch provides light and ventilation and access when needed.
