The Herreshoff 12 1/2 is believed to be one of Nathanael Herreshoff's finest and most widely recognized designs. The 12 1/2 design (comes from the length of the vessel's waterline) are beautiful vessels, offering classic styling, a well-balanced sail plan, ample interior room, and a lot of fun for anyone able to enjoy sailing aboard her! She is extremely buoyant and stable due to her ballasted keel, and she cannot be capsized.
This vessel was originally started when her hull was layed up in fiberglass over the original Herreshoff 12 1/2 plug in Massachusetts. Her interior and final building was completed as a home built project in New York state near Lake George. The builder focused on safety for his family, and incorporated glassed-in airtight compartments in the bow and stern to make the boat virtually unsinkable.
For ease of handling, she is equipped with aluminum spars and a Marconi rig. She offers a self-tacking jib boom (wood) and a spinnaker pole (wood). She comes equipped with
- Four sails (Mainsail, working jib, #2 genoa, spinnaker)
- All sheets and running rigging
- Dock lines
- Stainless steel removable boarding ladder
- Stainless steel removable outboard motor bracket
She is clean, practical, and ready to take her new owners out on the water, whether that be on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay or a more distant body of water, and she will make them proud wherever she goes! Please let us know if you have any specific questions!
A custom single-axle trailer is included with the boat. There are two custom brackets to accommodate carrying the spars aboard for easily portability.
This vessel is being kept inside in the seller's garage and out of the elements. Minimum 24 hours notice needed to get access to the boat.
Please note that all of our vessels are shown by prior appointment! We ask that that you give us at least 24 hours notice (even more if possible) by email or phone before you wish to see one of our boats. That way we can be sure and block out some time for you to see the boat! We do not want to have you arrive to an empty office because we are out showing a boat to your neighbor! Also, many of our boats are kept off-site & sometimes we can meet you either at the yard where the boat is located, or nearby and save you time traveling to Oxford unnecessarily. We look forward to hearing from you!
