I remember the first time that my eyes caught sight of a Tradewind 33, sitting in Fort Lauderdale many, many years ago. Everything on her, from her underbody, her beautiful sheerline, flush deck layout, cutter rig configuration, all with a wonderful interior layout, showed a sensible design execution meaning purpose was everywhere; that going to sea was to be easy, safe and an enjoyable adventure.

These yachts, built in England between the Mid-Seventies to Mid-Eighties by Fathom Marine, created one of the most beautiful and rarest ocean voyagers ever to become available. They were all designed and built to sail the wild seas around the UK and far beyond. The Tradewind 33 is an absolutely gorgeous sailing yacht.

The Tradewind 33 is a heavy displacement well balanced world voyager, with a ballast ratio of 43% which translates to solid footing in any seaway, with a long keel and a cutaway forefoot, with solid fiberglass construction and internal ballast, a protected rudder and prop, she's a cruising yacht with exceptional sea keeping and handling characteristics. With a deep seagoing cockpit, wide side decks and huge flush foredeck, she is designed for safe long distance cruising. Her heavy displacement means she is comfortable at sea as her motion is slow and purposeful and slamming into head seas is reduced. It also means she has the volume and power to carry sail and all the gear and stores needed for world voyaging.

She sleeps four but is really comfortable with a crew of two who would sleep in the saloon at sea and the fore cabin in port. The cutter rig makes sail handling easier as the headsails are smaller and sheet loads lighter and the directional stability of the long keel makes her ideal for wind vane steering. The layout of the accommodation provides a spacious saloon boasting over 6 foot of headroom and a galley with large work areas. The navigation area incorporates a chart table ideally positioned for the Navigator's comfort. The forward cabin has plenty of room and locker space. With wheel steering and a Yanmar diesel engine driving a three bladed folding propeller, the vessel is easily maneuvered in harbor and adequately powered to meet the varied needs of an ocean cruising yacht. She was chosen as the "perfect offshore world voyager" by every English sailing magazine of the times.

“In August 1979, 303 yachts began the 600-mile Fastnet Race from the Isle of Wight off the southwest coast of England to Fastnet Rock off the Irish coast and back. It began in fine weather, then suddenly became a terrifying ordeal. A Force 10, sixty-knot storm swept across the North Atlantic with a speed that confounded forecasters, slamming into the fleet with epic fury. For twenty hours, 2,500 men and women were smashed by forty-foot breaking waves, while rescue helicopters and lifeboats struggled to save them. By the time the race was over, fifteen people had died, twenty-four crews had abandoned ship, five yachts had sunk, 136 sailors had been rescued, and only 85 boats had finished the race.”

Several Tradewind 33 were in that race. All survived and finished. With more than 70 yachts completed since their first launch, the design is well proven. This design provides great bluewater sailing with the cutter rig and a deep and secure offshore cockpit.

Our offering, is one the last Tradewind 33’s to be built. She has had little real cruising usage other than a delivery to Florida by the listing broker. Lion Heart is an amazing Tradewinds as she was once owned by a true benefactor who invested over 400K to have an amazing restoration with work  completed by the master craftsman’s at Lyman Morse of Thomaston Maine. She was completely refit with a new epoxy bottom, all new mechanical systems, electrical, plumbing, and electronics (radar/plotters 2/autopilot/vhf/B&G Hydras), stereo. At that time in about 2006 her hull was Alwgripped and the entire interior was installed made out of beautiful cherry with new maple floors. Everything was new including the propane system, new tanks, new sails, new winches, new exterior varnish, new cabin heater, new standing and running rigging, entire new sail inventory, new headsail furler, new mast wiring, new Yanmar, new Max prop, new thru-hull fittings, new lighting, new ground tackle, windlass, lifelines, new chainplates, new saltwater sea chest, new pumps, new bilges, new fuel tank and plumbing, all deck hardware has been replaced and rebedded, new cushions, new dodger, and the list just keeps on going and going. Everything is new and everything is even better than when she first got launched back in 1984. Again, over 400K was passionally spent on improvements in 2006 of so. She has lived in a heated shed at Lyman Morse during this entire time.

Lionheart, as she’s called isn’t for everyone. She is only for those that want something better than the “usual” world voyager. She sails safe, fast, comfortable and will be a head turner anywhere that you chose to sail to. The layout, build quality, design, care and money spent on her will provide a extremely unique yacht of the highest caliber and greatest value.

She’s available for viewing to serious buyers only. The condition is impeccable, for she is ready to sail to anywhere at anytime and you’ll have a blast doing so. So, if you ever considered a Pacific Seacraft 34 or 37 and want something even better; Lionheart is heads above anything else out there, at any price; even our beloved Bristol Channel Cutters which we're so fond of.

Six boat owner wants her sold, she sits in Annapolis for easy viewing. Please, serious inquires only, one look at her and you will experience love at first sight. Lionheart will definitely not disappoint, and one will easily see the value, the money spent on her, the care and possibilities of her. We look forward to speaking with you about this very special offering.
