1984 CALIBER 28 SLOOP "CHEROKEE ROSE"
Same owner for over 12 years. This is a well kept boat that is being replaced by a larger vessel.
After meticulous design and construction, brothers George and Michael McCreary launched their first Caliber out of their backyard garage in 1981. Their 28' blue water cruiser instantly took off and by 1985, the McCrearys had their own plant in Clearwater, FL producing their famous Caliber 33s. Set out with the intention of competing with other blue water production companies like Moody, Pearson, Bristol and Endeavour, Caliber marketed their boats to the niche sailing market looking for the complete sailing package for "a knowledgeable and quality conscious consumer."
The production of the Caliber 28 was based on creating a sturdier smaller cruising vessel. The McCrearys sought to enhance their hulls' structural integrity by applying thicker hull laminates that create higher impact strength than many other production boats on the market. Using a "multi-bulkhead bonding system" in which floors, stringers, bulkheads, shelves and frames are bonded with heavy fiberglass laminates, the Caliber 28 design makes for a sturdy vessel. Michael McCreary, the naval architect, also designed the vessel with more evenly spread sea, keel, and rig loads over the entire hull.
