Looking to Sail Away - Tomorrow?
The Amel Maramu 46 a true classic ready to cross oceans short or singlehanded. Jazz recently underwent a complete refit from bottom to masthead; stem to stern in preparation for a circumnavigation. No expense was spared and all work was completed by one of the East Coast’s top boat yards under the direction of her very experienced owner. The attention to detail and quality of the components has to be seen to be appreciated.
All equipment and systems were either new at time of refit or if original have been refitted and are in like new condition. New Yanmar engine, new North sails, refaired bottom, epoxy barrier coat and bottom paint. Awlgripped topsides and decks, resprayed nonskid, spars removed disassembled refitted and painted, new stanchions & lifelines, bow and stern rails, new standing rigging, new running rigging, new hatches and ports, new wiring, top of the line electronics package. The interior has been updated with all-LED lighting and decorator switches, new interior upholstery, new overheads, new refrigeration and the traditional mahogany interior is in excellent condition. We could go on and on and on!
The owner’s plans have changed and this fine vessel is being offered at a fraction of her refit cost.
Please see the full specifications for a complete list of completed work and an inventory of equipment but rest assured that this boat is ready to go.

Step down four easy steps to the warm traditional mahogany interior. To port is a u-shaped galley. To starboard is a full navigation station. Forward to port is an L-shaped settee with a custom easily stowed dining table. To starboard is a settee which doubles as a sea berth. Forward of the salon is the guest suite which includes a private head, large hanging locker and large v-berth. Aft of the navigation station is the passageway to the master suite with its queen ensuite head.
The nicely appointed forward suite includes a newly upholstered v-berth which can be utilized as two single berths or with the filler piece inserted as a queen. Beneath the berth is abundant storage as well as easy access to the Bow thruster motor, deck wash down pump and strainer, the windlass control box and emergency tiller. All bilge and storage compartments are clean and painted. Forward of the v-berth is an access hatch to the anchor locker. Both the forward and aft bulkheads are watertight. Above, the overhead has been reupholstered and there is a new 20” Bomar hatch with removable screen, and grab bars. The bulkheads and trim are mahogany while the deck is teak and holly. Out board are numerous storage compartments. A large hanging locker is located at the entrance to the compartment. Convenience items include a new chrome LED dome light, two new chrome LED reading lights and two new LED strip lights. A fan and brushed chrome designer light switches complete the package.
The forward head located within the forward compartment is easily accessed from the salon. It received a complete renovation which included a new overhead, new wall covering, new toilet, and new designer accessories. Ventilation is provided by an exhaust fan and new large Bomar hatch. Convenience items include a large Lexan covered storage compartment, 110 convenience outlet, mirror and new LED lighting.
Aft Master Suite
The also renovated master suite features a newly upholstered very large berth that can be configured to the master’s requirements. To starboard is a desk/makeup table with mirror and swivel seat. As is elsewhere, the bulkheads are traditional mahogany while for comfort the deck has been newly carpeted. Forward of the desk is another roomy hanging locker. Items of convenience include a 110V courtesy outlet, abundant newly lined storage compartments, four LED reading lights, LED strip lighting alongside the berth, LED chrome dome light, new overhead with grab bars, and two fans. Additional ventilation and natural light is provided by the new large Bomar overhead hatch and aft facing Lewmar hatch (the overhead hatch is a custom feature unique to this boat). Below the berth the steering and emergency tiller connections are easily accessed.
Located in the aft master suite is the second head. It has also benefitted from a complete renovation. Notable features include a height adjustable shower, new custom fiberglass enclosure, a new Raritan Marine toilet, LED lighting, the shower sump control switch, GFI 110V outlet and new grab bars and toilet accessories as well as a brushed chrome waterproof light switch. Ventilation is provided by exhaust fan and a new chrome Hood port.
The aft passageway connects the salon with the master suite. The large shelve encloses the outboard fuel tank. All surfaces have been recovered in a padded vinyl. Other items in this area include a chrome overhead LED light, 110v courtesy outlet and new 8-pole 12V electric subpanel.
Located midships the single level salon is open to the galley and navigation station. Located prominently on the port side is the L-shaped settee with its custom built-easily removable dinette. The opposing straight settee features an innovative swinging leeboard. All cushions are new. The overhead is new and grab bars have been installed. The new custom pleated curtains beautifully compliment the traditional mahogany interior. All storage compartments, bilges and cubbies are clean and/newly lined. A notable feature is the large freezer compartment located under the forward portion of the L-shaped settee. Other items of note include the new LED designer lighting and switches, the ventilation fans and of course all new Bomar ports and hatches. All bilge areas are accessed via easily removable floor panels and are clean and uncluttered.
The original straight galley offered by the manufacturer has been beautifully reconfigured into a more modern U-shape. The substantial renovation included new solid surface counter tops, twin very deep sinks, complete replacement of the plumbing system, new gimballed Force 10 three burner stove with oven. A new large microwave oven, custom insulated front opening refrigerator box, and copious storage completes the package. New separate Sea Frost Freezer and refrigeration controls and systems are in place.
Located to starboard of the companionway is the navigation and electrical control station. All systems are new and truly state of the art. All workmanship is meticulous with all connections clearly labeled. Throughout the refitting all obsolete systems and wires were removed and a new 40 pole custom BASS electrical panel installed at the navigation station to service the entire boat. The large chart table faces outboard and is accompanied by a new comfortable seat. Controls at this station include the Icom HF Marine IC802 SSB, the Icom IC-M504 VHF, Furuno F150 Multi-Function display, Furuno GPS/Waas Navigator (GPS Display), the Magnum Energy electrical systems monitoring control display, and the Blue Sky IPN Pro Remote solar energy monitoring and control display. With the press of a button the panel drops down for easy access to the back of the instruments and associated wiring. Again, all wiring has been carefully and neatly run and labeled. There is plenty of room for additional instruments if desired at the navigation station. Finally, adjacent to the companionway is the unique Maramu mechanical fresh water remaining indicator.
HULL, DECK & RIGGING
Underneath the Maramu features a long fin keel and skeg hung rudder. Hulls were molded in one piece and are constructed of biaxial fiberglass cloth. The manufacturer states that the rudder and skeg have been tested to be able to support the vessel weight in the case of a severe grounding. The keel is secured by twenty-two keel bolts. The bottom was stripped, refaired and epoxy coated (four coats) with Pettit Protect Epoxy prior to bottom painting with black Micron 66. The rudder and keel were inspected. A new 20” three blade Maxprop propeller, new 1-3/8” shaft and coupling bearing completed the bottom work. The Centek bow thruster (new batteries and wiring) simplifies tight quarters maneuvering. Topsides were stripped, sanded primed and painted. A new bootline was located and a new rub rail with a stainless steel insert finished the job.
The spars, stanchions, hardtop and all hardware were removed, inspected and repaired or replaced. All hatches and ports (except for one in the aft cabin) were replaced with new Bomar hatches. An additional overhead hatch was added in the aft cabin. Decks were primed and painted. The toe rail was painted a striking black. Nonskid was resprayed. As described on the preceding pages Jazz underwent a complete refit. No expense was spared and getting the project completed "right" superseded schedule and financial considerations. The refit was started in 2007 and was completed in 2013. Upon completion sea trails and short sails were undertaken in anticipation of a circumnavigation. Unfortunately other commitments by the owner have postponed the planned trip resulting in the offering of this vessel for sale. When referred to as new, miscellaneous components were new at the time of refit which at this time may be several years ago. We believe that this Yacht as offered in an unbelievable value and as equipped and designed ready for immediate departure for long distance voyaging.
The knowledgeable owner as well as the personnel who performed the work are available to answer any questions you may have. A post refit survey as well as yard records are available for inspection by serious buyers.
The boat is located at Lock Wood Boat works in South Amboy, New Jersey, USA. We are conveniently located a half hour from Newark International Airport and a couple of miles from the South Amboy New Jersey Transit Train Station. It would be our pleasure to arrange pickup and drop off at either location.
