"Morning Mist", a seasoned Alaska veteran, shows the meticulous care here owners have graced on her with upgraded mechanical systems and underbody (bulb bow & keel fin) improvements overlaid with a new interior and complete exterior Awlgrip repaint in 2009.  With the keel laid in 1983 at Sidney Steel Boats B.C., she arrived at completion for her first owners in July 1988 where she was christened "Ariel 77" and in 1990 authorized to change her name to "Panda Bay".  With a proven blue water pedigree, "Morning Mist" will provide miles and years of enjoyment and comfort at a fraction of the cost to replace her.  The envy of many experienced Alaska charter skippers, "Morning Mist" is ideally suited for charter.

Designer's Comments:

Morning Mist was designed by Ed Rutherford (Waterline Yachts 1982 - 2004) in the early 1980's with a unique underbody design employing a fine entry planing style steel hull.  Original plans specified a semi-displacement planing hull powered by twin Mann 900hp inboards capable of 24 kt performance.  The owner's decision for final build specifications modified the horsepower to twin 300 hp Detroit diesel engines for improved fuel economy at the cost of top end speed.  The designer participated in her original sea trial and documented a top speed of 17 kts with the twin 300 hp Detroits.

With a 23 degree deadrise bow shape carried the entire length of her hull,  Morning Mist enjoys a soft entry with a flared bow, which incorporated with the Portugese Bridge design, reduces exposure to waves.  The hull gradually increases chine moving aft which creates incredible platform stability while continuing the 23 degree "V" to the stern acts as a keel/skeg providing good tracking.

Hull construction consists of T-bar longitudinal framing with angle transverse framing covered with 3/16 - 1/4" steel in her bottom and 3/16" steel up to her gunwhales providing 44,000# puncture strength.  Keel and chine strakes were designed into the hull for future addition of engine coil cooling systems.  The superstructure is comprised of 3/16" aluminum bolted in place with galvanic isolating insulators on an angle flange.  The current owner added a steel T-plate on the keel creating enhanced stability and added the bulbous bow to improve bouyancy while reducing motion in an active sea.  With 2" of urethane foam insulation throughout the entire hull, she is an extremely warm and quiet vessel.  Combining the strength of the steel hull, the stabilizing keel design, and the substantial insulation package,  Morning Mist delivers a quiet, warm, and comfortable experience in high winds and severe sea states.
