The Oyster 46 is a proven yacht within the Oyster range and this Oyster 46 is well worth considering. Currently undergoing her winter maintenance program. She is currently laid up for the winter in a boat shed - she has recently had her cap rails varnished, had a lot of her interior woodwork revarnished.

Designed by Holman it Pye the Oyster 46 is a moderate displacement blue water cruising yacht. Her long waterline length and volume allow several interior layout possibilities that would normally only be practical on larger vessels.

The design incorporates a centre cockpit and 'deck saloon' feature that has established many of her larger and smaller Oyster sisters as bestsellers. The 'deck saloon' facilitates an exceptionally light and airy saloon with a raised floor level that offers a major advantage over conventional coachroof designs. The opening forward windows allow unbeatable through-yacht ventilation in warm weather, whilst giving excellent all-round visibility. Another advantage of the 'deck saloon' design is the larger than average fuel and water tankage, ideally sited low down in the centre of the yacht.

Under power the Oyster 46 offers economical quiet cruising with a smart, carefully considered and designed engine installation. The engine is sited directly on top of the ballast keel such that much of the noise and vibration is absorbed within this mass and by the adjacent bulk of the fuel and water tanks. With the use of special soundproofing, couplings, mounts and stemgear which make the yacht even quieter.

Each Oyster 46 is built to order with an interior layout planned around her owner's requirements. In this way the yacht offers many of the advantages of a commissioned 'one-off? but in an economical form with predictable performance, quality standards and consequently good resale value.

The traditional ketch rig is also available for owners who believe the split sailplan and separately stayed mizzen mast are the real 'answer' for blue water cruising. Either way, sloop or ketch, with or without cutter gear, the Oyster 46 has established a reputation as a very able performer and reliable sea boat.

The Oyster 46 has evolved steadily benefiting from each sistership's experience. One of the most distinguished yachtsmen to select the Oyster 46 from the Worldwide marketplace is Mr Stanley Livingston, a lifetime sailor and yacht racer. In his previous yacht Mr Livingston won his class in the Transatlantic race and he has several Bermuda races to his credit More recently he has been Commodore of the prestigious 'Cruising Club of America' (CCA) as well as chairman of their technical committee. Working closely with Oyster and the designers, Mr Livingston initiated several changes to the 46, many of which (having been proved) are now offered as client options. These include the 'Scheel' shoal draft keel which reduces the draft of the standard yacht by a foot and a half with minimal loss of sailing performance. Another is a custom built teak cockpit lining which gives the cockpit area a very traditional wooden yacht feeling with perfectly angled back supports and coaming tops for maximum comfort.

The Oyster 46 really can match your ideas and lifestyle no matter whether your interest is in a blue-water long range passagemaker or just a yacht to live aboard and potter at weekends.

Accommodation

The Oyster 46 Center Cockpit Ketch is a cruisers dream come true. First of all she is a center cockpit deck salon design with that great aft cabin centerline berth and ensuite head and shower.  This owner’s stateroom is spacious with storage on berth sides. The owner’s head opens to the navigation station on the port side and to the galley on the starboard side.  The main salon is a deck salon with incredible headroom and large tempered- glass windows that give you lots of light and a feeling of spaciousness. The salon is very comfortable with a dining table to starboard that seats six. To port there is a comfortable settee with a smaller ‘coffee-table’ that seats 4 comfortably for cocktials or just hanging out. If you every need to serve dinner to a dozen people, you will love the fact that the dining table can be extended to rest on top of the coffee table creating a 12ft long dining table! With a few extra chairs, you can accommodate 14 for dinner!

The forward cabin is also amazing. With its unique layout , the forward cabin gives you some really nice options.  There are two cabins forward port and starboard with upper and lower pipe berths. These can be separated by a folding door to provide two double cabins with a shared head forward.  The lower berth in the starboard cabin can be converted to ‘double’ berth for a nice guest cabin. For a cruising couple, this ingenious layout gives you great accessible storage. Forward of the double cabins, there is a large head and shower that can be accessed from either cabin. There is also a large sail locker accessed through the head. The chain locker forward has a water tight bulkhead.

  • Deck salon with tempered glass windows
