The true definition of a world cruiser is many things to many sailors, all driven by just two things; beauty in the eye of the beholder, and money. I was extremely fortunate and courageous to invest back in the mid 1980’s, all of my resources, to buy the ultimate, most luxurious, best built, and best designed world cruiser to take my family sailing.

I chose the Bob Perry designed, Ta Shing-built, Center Cockpit Norseman 447. I remember the first day that I took delivery of her. She was berthed in the Shilshole Bay Marina outside of Seattle, in the Pacific Northwest. From the first day, to the last, she will always be my true love. She was a comfortable and safe home, a home to be proud of. She was a powerful, swift, and safe world cruiser. She was easy to sail, for she enjoyed stretching her legs and always reaching for the next horizon with authority and confidence. The boat was a yacht, a beautiful yacht, a properly designed yacht, drawn by my good friend Bob Perry, who is talented enough to blend perfectly with the Builder’s skill, to create a wonderful sailing yacht. Just look at today’s so called sisterships, the Taswell. Where do you think that the ideas of design came from, for the similarities are obvious.

The Norseman 447 sails wonderfully, it is beautiful at every angle, and it is gorgeous inside and out. I love these boats.

We know “Shakti” very, very well. We sold her to the current owners a few years ago. These are really, really special people. He was a commercial fisherman in the North Atlantic for 30 years and she was a willing adventurer.
