Challenge Twelve as built by Steve Ward for the Perth Western Australia based Challenge Syndicate and used as a trial horse for Australia II. She was completely dismantled, restored and upgraded to the highest standards in 2007, fitted out with a new single extrusion mast, carbon winches with a new North Sails inventory in 2009. One of the few "modern" Twelves" with the very attractive low free board, she has been stored inside for the past several years, she is ready to sail in 2016 and realistically priced.

Hull and Appendages
During her 2004 refit the hull was taken back to bare metal, faired then built up with a barrier coat and paint system. The topsides gleam and have no blemishes.
In 2005 an Isotope Carbon fiber rudder which weighs 24 kgs, supported with a JP3 bearing, replaced the original which weighed 90 kgs, similarly the 90 kg trim tab was replaced with a carbon design weighing 20 kgs.
Obviously there was no expense was spared in upgrading and optimization.
Lewmar carbon primary winch drums with carbon pedestals were installed in 2004. The mainsheet is a Lewmar titanium #80 mainsheet driven by a carbon pedestal. Halyard winches at the mast are 4 x Lewmar #58s with 2 x # 48s as secondaries. The runner winches are 2 x #48s Lewmar. There are six Lewmar lead blocks and two Frederikson genoa cars.
Mast, Boom, Spinnaker Poles
A new mast was designed by Jacques Fouroux and installed in 2007. Unique in many ways particularly as it is a single extrusion tube and thererore without a splice. Shipping the tube from Holland was the main challenge. The standing rigging attachments call for the rods to cross over inside the extrusion and fasten on the inside, enabling a one size reduction in rod size. The mast head is clean and uncomplicated and very light. A 19.5 Kg lead block is attached to mast butt when stepped to comply with 12 Metre Rule. A portable hydraulic jack is stored adjacent to the step.
The Carbon boom and spinnaker pole were designed and built by Carbospars. The second carbon spinnaker pole is a lightweight of triangular design by Petit Jean Composites and weighs only 10 Kgs.
Sails and Rigging
All running rigging and halyards were replaced in 2009. There is an extra set of "Future Fibre" running backstays that have not been used.
