If you are looking for a very large live-aboard or cruising vessel with lots of goodies, this is your boat. She is in Majuro in the Marshall Islands, 2000 miles WSW of Hawaii, and is ready to sail anywhere. She comes with everything you need – including charts and flags, and even fuel on deck!
Moonbird is a 46 foot ketch, and was the last Morgan built before the company was sold to Catalina Yachts, so she ended up with extra thick fiberglass. She has a modified fin keel and skeg protected rudder, cored decking and a keel stepped mast. She comfortably sleeps 4 (two in the V-berth and two in the aft stateroom), but can accommodate 6 (2 more on the queen-size pull out settee). She has two heads with Raritan PHII toilets, with stainless sinks. The aft head has a bathtub/shower and the forward head has a pull out faucet for showers.
The bottom was last painted in Fiji in 2012, so buyer will have to take her there (or to the Philippines or Thailand) to get the bottom done. But she has no blisters and there is still plenty of paint on her. We painted the hull in 2012, but not the house. She has turquoise canvas and hard dodger, and C-Cushions in the cockpit to match, which makes sleeping in the cockpit underway comfortable.
All the electronic equipment is in good shape – including a Lowrance GPS, a Standard Horizon VHF, with AIS and DSC, an ICOM 802 HF Radio a radio with Pactor modem set up to work with the laptop, and a car stereo with CD/USB, a Furuno 24-mile color radar/chart plotter and Interphase forward scanning sonar, CPT autopilot (2012).
She has bronze portlights with screens, and Lewmar and Bowmar hatches. All the winches are Lewmar as well. She is well illuminated with 6 overhead Alpenglow lights (3 LED, 3 fluorescent), as well as other reading lights installed throughout.
The galley has a Force 10 3-burner with safety bars, oven and broiler. A safety shut-off for the propane is in the galley. There is a dry locker on the port side of the deep double stainless sink, and storage under and behind every settee and berth. There is a canned goods drawer under the refrigerator, and next to the steps we added pull out shelves/drawers for knives, pots and towels/misc. She has a a 22” Technautics Cool Blue cold plate in a deep freezer (4 cu. ft.) with a divider for a 4 cu.ft. refrigerator. We make water with an 11-gallon an hour Village Marine modular Little Wonder (in the engine room) to fill the 110-gallon water tank.
She has a Garhauer traveller for the mainsheet, and all lines run to the cockpit through Garhauer cars and blocks, with a #16 winch on the cockpit coaming for the (Bamar) roller furler line. She has a Garhauer hoist on the aft deck.
The cockpit includes an H&L Marine teak folding table with special stainless hinges for support, a cockpit grate, turquoise C-cushions, a wash down pump in the starboard lazarette, where the Winslow 6-man life raft is stowed.
Moonbird has a custom made hard dodger with fishing rod holders under, and solar panel rack on top, with two 65 watt solar panels. Two more solar panels (125 watts each) are installed aft of the cockpit on adjustable mounts. The solar panels feed into a Link 2000 and a Solar Boost controller to manage the electrical input. A Magnum 3000 inverter is installed underneath the electrical panel at the nav station. In the work bench area, we installed a Charles Marine 80 amp battery charger. There are 6 house batteries, and a battery each for the engine, the windlass and the generator.
The engine room houses a Perkins 4.64 diesel engine and Westerbeke 7.6kW generator inboard, the Technautics compressor, the air compressor (used for diving the boat with the hookah/regular system), the modular components of the water maker, a dual Raycor filter for the engine and a single Raycor filter for the generator, and an 11 gallon water heater. A Honda 2000 portable generator sits on the aft deck in a secured storage.
