She is one beautiful classic yacht! There is so much new on this boat that she is amazing. Keep reading!

This one is special! The Gulfstar 44 is often overlooked by cruisers and liveaboards today and maybe most of them are growing tired, but not Whitecap because she is completely refit! While the Gulfstar of the early years in the 70s were not regarded has top quality, but 1980 the Lazzara factory had started building a high quality and surprisingly modern sailing vessel of solid hand laid glass and lead keel with the interior built in the way real boats are build. No liner here! Designed by Vince Lazzara she is a surprisingly modern sailing vessel with her raked bow leading aft to a slight sheer with an attractive counter stern. Walking through the boat yard, you’ll do a double take when you see the long fin cruising keel and full skeg mounted rudder. On the deck, the low cabin house is pleasing and looking aft the boat is shapely with the beam in her displacement weight of 28,000lbs and 8500 lbs of ballast she sails beautifully. Her waterline of over 35 ft with a beam of only 13’2” she is shapely and actually fast. On deck you see her pretty lines with a fairly sharp entry neatly curving to the middle tapered at the transom. She looks exactly like a real boat. She’s very pretty. With her ketch cutter rig, she is a gorgeous classic under sail. They say that Vince Lazzara was “the master of beauty above, speed below, and comfort inside.” We are very pleased to bring you “Whitecap” the 1981 Gulfstar Ketch Cutter. There is so much to love and appreciate in this boat.

You will see that in many aspects she was modern for her times and mostly everything has been refit, rebedded, replaced or updated. She’s lovely. The fixed salon windows with stainless steel frames are quite modern and allow a lot of light below. There are pull down pleated window treatments that are all perfect. There are plenty of opening ports and hatches as well and all were replaced and rebedded. The door to the engine room is like a real engine room door on a ship with a window. And when you open it, you are surprised to see a big beautiful Lugger diesel installed in 2003. It is about as good as you could get and it has about 420 hours on it.

Why not! Her owner of many years, owned a boat yard and had a love for beautiful boats. Whitecap has a new Awlgrip paint job in beautiful Corinthian blue in addition to the gorgeous diesel with only 420 hours on it. For her age, she is lightly used. The stove looks like it was never used at all. The interior is romantic in a really good way with unique features like a built in liquor cabinet with a roll down door that slides perfectly as the day she was new. And I don’t think it is from use! It just fits and works right. The teak joinery is impressive and the interior is in lovely condition and overall it is very pleasing.

In fact the interior layout on the whole is quite wonderful with a traditional “real” V-berth in the forward cabin with the head aft to port and storage to starboard forward of the main bulkhead. The salon just aft is large with an l-shaped settee to port and a straight settee/berth to starboard with a large centerline drop-leaf table. You can seat a crew of at least six. The galley tucked to port at the companionway is just perfect with plenty of counter space and storage. There’s a real sit down forward facing navigation station to starboard with a big chart table with a custom inlaid compass rose and a gorgeous custom leather seat. Then the walkthrough to the aft cabin where there is incredible storage to starboard and the amazing engine room under the cockpit. The aft cabin is awesome with wide berths port and starboard and a beautiful settee in the centerline for dressing. Of course it has a filler to make the entire space a huge king sized berth. It’s awesome and the cushions look like they were never slept on.

This boat really deserves your consideration. She is a 1981 boat designed and built in a time when real boats were built really well. She has been completely refit and continually maintained and upgraded along the way. It really shows.
