The Niagara 35, designed by Mark Ellis, enjoyed a production run that spanned three decades (1978 to 1995). The boat has earned an enviable reputation as a superb, live-aboard cruiser with numerous long voyages to the design's credit. Nearly 300 Niagara 35's were built by George Hinterhoeller - one time president of C&C, and builder of the Nonsuch boats. Though not of a conventional design layout, the Niagara 35 Mk1 was designed to be a very capable cruising vessel. Hinterhoeller's attention to detail and solid, quality construction were well above average and Hinterhoeller-built boats have always enjoyed strong resale values.
Mythical is a well laid out cruising boat that has been well maintained and features the Classic interior layout. Wide side decks, a stout rig, secure cockpit, serious anchoring and docking hardware and a host of other well-thought out details contribute to this Niagara 35's appeal.
Down below, Hinterhoeller's trademark teak joinery creates a warm, inviting interior. Four large opening hatches and ports plus Dorade vents give good ventilation and excellent storage, including the forepeak. Smartly laid out to provide both convenience and privacy, Mythical is ready to cruise with family and friends and is perfect for couples doing long distance cruising.
Mythical has a brand new Volvo diesel engine.

Many sailors feel the Niagara 35’s Classic interior is a near-perfect layout for a cruising couple. The key advantages to this unique accommodation plan are that the galley, head, nav station and berths are all convenient to the cockpit and nearly centered in the boat where occupants are least effected by motion. This layout also works well with guests aboard because you have two private cabins, both with direct access to the head.
In this arrangement, the forward-most area is great utilized as a workroom/storage room. There is a small seat across from a sturdy workbench that is comfortable and convenient for getting projects done. There's even standing room, if the hatch is open. It’s also possible to use this space as a short V-berth.
Moving aft, the main salon has opposing settees and a center, drop-leaf table. The starboard settee converts to a double berth. Both settee berths have removable, upholstered backrests and good storage above as well a large footlocker under each settee and lee-cloths for bunking in rough conditions. The table has a deep storage well in the center and folds up around the mast when not in use. A full length hanging locker with a bin underneath is located just forward of the starboard settee. Four, opening ports with screens provide light and ventilation.
Continuing aft, there is a walk-through galley to port and a walk-through head to starboard. The head has dual privacy doors allowing easy access from either the aft cabin or the salon. In addition, the head has a stand-up, hand-held, hot/cold pressure water shower with fiberglass floor pan, a stainless steel sink with storage above and below and a manual flush head. There is a wet locker just forward of the head with access to the macerator, deck wash down pump and raw water strainer.
You can enter the aft master cabin through privacy doors on either the head or galley side. Once inside, there is a nice navigation area with chart table just forward of the starboard single quarter berth. This berth has a full length fiddled shelf and varnished cedar strapping on the hull above and additional storage below. On the port side of the master cabin, you will find a 6’4” double quarter berth with white cedar strapping on the hull above the berth and additional storage below. Both berths have an opening port to the cockpit for light and ventilation.
