Lyle Hess, designed the FalmouthCutter as a pocket cruiser that could carry one or two persons across the oceans safely. The design is a take-off on a traditional English Channel pilot boat that proved sea worthy in extreme weather conditions. Mr Hess's most famous design was the 28 ft Bristol Channel Cutter. This is the smaller sister. This cutter is hull #1 built by Sam Morse in Costa Mesa, Calif. to exacting standards and heavy displacement. Because of the boat's small size, she can actually be trailored. The plumb bow stem is fitted with a retractable wooden bow sprit. She is a full keel design with a transom hung rudder.
There is amazing storage on the vessel. Her interior is simple; yet she offers a well thought out interior. If you want a boat you can sail yourself, this is it. You will find everything truly manageable. In terms of build quality, it is top notch! The interior gives you everything you need on a boat with a 20-ft waterline that you can sail yourself anywhere in the world..
The Falmouth Cutter 22 sailboat ,is a very capable and unique sailboat. It is a true bluewater cruiser and is often used as a live aboard boat because of its spacios accomodations and standing headroom. It is capable of and was designed to cross oceans in almost any weather.
