This Ted Brewer designed Whitby 42 is exceptionally clean and well maintained. She has been consistantly updated and upgraded over the years, and is a very good value long-term cruiser or liveaboard. The Hood in-mast mainsail furling system coupled with the genoa furling system makes short-handed sailing simple.

Separate fiberglass pan (liner) bonded to hull, with teak cabin sole hatches throughout. Aft cabin has 2 bunks, Queen-size insert, double hanging locker, bureau, numerous lockers and drawers. Walkthrough passageway contains.workbench, chart storage area, bookcase, and storage drawers The engine room access is on the port side with removable doors, lights, electrical locker, access to holding tank, manual bilge pump and windlass battery switch. Starboard navigation area contains chart table, storage under, recessed areas for instruments. Starboard sitting area contains straight settee/berth, fold down cocktail table, built-in bar, drawers and lockers. Port L-shaped dinette, converts to double berth, storage under, drawers and lockers above. Custom teak bookrack behind main cabin fold-up dining table, boxed-in mast. Forward head is enclosed with shower, sink, 110 volt AC receptacle, fluorescent light. Starboard storage locker with door, separate hanging locker open to forward cabin with door, V berth with filler cushion, numerous lockers and drawers. Access doors to chain locker, teak accent piece fitted along port side main cabin. GALLEY: 110 volt DC holding plate refrigerator, water cooled, runs from inverter or shore power. 12 V DC holding plate Nauticold freezer rebuilt 1999. It is set up to run through the inverter. U-shaped, formica covered working surfaces with teak trim fiddles. Two deep S/S sinks, Force 10 (3) burner gimbaled SS propane stove with oven (2004) and guard bar in front. LPG remote switch off controls for 2 tanks located in port aft locker. Numerous lockers and drawers.
NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT & ELECTRONICS Cockpit and Binnacle: Compass, Ritchie 6" mounted on steering pedestal, engine instruments and controls.Nav Station: hand-held GPS, VHF and conventional compass, depth finder. There is a small electrical panel for certain 12 volt electrical accessories.
Engine / Mechanical
Ford Lehman 4 cylinder in-line diesel, 80 hp. Installed in 1995 and in July 2011 had 3531 hours use. New motor mounts installed 2010 as well as new oil cooler. The alternator was also rebuilt in 2010. In 2000 a new water lift muffler was installed. Heat exchanger cleaned 2010. Transmission Borg Warner Velvet Drive rebuilt 2010, including new spline shaft, damper plate & bell housing removed, cleaned and painted. New cutlass bearing in 2006, rudder post repacked in 2007. Hydraulic steering hydraulic steering pump with destroyer type wheel. Custom fiberglass pedestal with throttle/gear shift, 5" illuminated compass in SS binnacle. 1 1/2 inch bronze rudder stock, keyed into fiberglass laminate, accessible under aft berth, emergency tiller, accessible inside or on deck through a S/S deck plate leading to the aft cabin.
Thru-hull fittings are through-bolted bronze W/CSeacox. Manual bilge pump in bridge deck, Whale Gusher No. 10 diaphragm type new in 2002. Two fresh water tanks under main cabin sole, 1 under the V-berth. Plumbed to 4-valve manifold and separate freshwater, galley pump as backup. Pressurized hot and cold water system, with 12 volt pump, new in 2008. The two fresh water tanks were rebuilt. 10 US gallon hot water tank, heated by engine water, or shore power. Two manual heads discharging to 40 US gallon polyethylene holding tank. Both heads are set up with showers, both with electric sump pump. Deck wash down pump.

Rigging and sails
12 x 1 1/2 anodized aluminum genoa T-tracks with two chromed cars each side. Two Lewmar self-tailing primary winches for genoa, Lewmar #30 self tailing winch with 7 inch cleat for the main. RIGGING: Main and mizzen masts are extruded aluminum, removed in 2010, painted, rewired and new LED LIGHTS added plus new TV scanner and antenna. Roller furlerfor genoa (2000). All new (2010) 1 x 19 stainless steel standing rigging, In-mast Hood Stowaway main furling system (rebuilt '10). Main & Genoa '00, mizzen, spinnaker w/snuffer.
Deck & Hull
HULL: Molded one-piece GRP fiberglass laminate constructed to Gibb and Cox specifications. Alternate mat and roving, ranging from 1" solid glass on centerline to 3/8 inches of solid glass in sheer. Balsa cored for added strength, from approximately 8 inches below sheer to waterline. Hull and deck glassed together with an internal flange, also mechanically joined with SS rivets and SS bolts at stress points and along the genoa tracks and deck fittings. Full length teak rubrail through-bolted with SS striker. Molded-in sheer indent. Rudder enlarged in 1994. Bottom peeled and epoxied in 2007
DECK. CABIN HOUSE, COCKPIT: Balsa cored reinforced deck for additional stiffness and sound insulation. All through-deck attachment areas are solid glass. Molded-in nonskid, raised spray shield forward of main companionway hatch, molded fiberglass headliner for additional thermal insulation. Self-bailing cockpit with 2" scuppers, bridge decks protect main and aft cabin companionways, the cockpit is large enough to sleep two, built-in ice box and cockpit locker and custom fiberglass pedestal. Teak on seats and winch bases. Entire cockpit sole can be removed for engine room access. Molded-in deck gutters, with drains to eliminate standing water and hull streaks. Two flush deck hatch storage lockers aft with overboard drains. Teak grates for cockpit.
DECK & DECK HARDWARE: SS bowsprit and bobstay fitting, with anchor rollers and teak grating. Two 12 inch bow cleats with chocks, two stern 10 inch cleats with chocks. Ideal electric anchor windlass (motor rebuilt 2007) with foot switch. 3/8 inch chain gypsy, second 3/8 inch SS chain, deck plate with cover, on the port side of the windlass. Double welded bow and stern pulpits, with gate in upper part of stern pulpit. Stanchions and pulpits through-bolted in solid glass. New life lines 2010, with gates on both sides. Stanchions rebedded 2010. 16 new chain plates in 2010. Three water fill deck plates, three fuel fill deck plates, one holding tank discharge plate, all grounded. Folding transom boarding ladder with solid teak steps. Hasps on all deck hatches for padlocks. Teak toerails, grabrails & cockpit comings and trim. 4 deck hatches. Bowsprit added 1995. Cockpit cushions. New ports 1998. There is also a washdown hose forward. Side decks painted in 2008. There are 2 solar powered vents over the heads and 2 PVC cowl vents.
