SIGNIFICANT PRICE REDUCTION !!!!!!
A recent and significant price reduction for this amazing Valiant 40 has made this incredible restored classic, “Miss Ellie” more accessible to prospective buyers who have serious long term cruising and passagemaking in their future sailing plans. “MISS ELLIE” is offered on the brokerage market by her 3rd loving owners. Shortly after her purchase, “MISS ELLIE” was relocated to a Canadian controlled environment, indoor yacht facility. For several years no expense was spared by her owners in undertakng a careful restoration and updating of all systems and equipment. Her substantial upgrades for ocean passages and live-aboard cruising, including interior custom features that are usually found on only very high end custom yachts. “Miss Ellie” is truly a turn key opportunity and should be #1, on the short list of “must see yachts” for any serious sailor, contemplating the purchase of a world class cruising yacht.
“MISS ELLIE” is now again on the brokerage market, by only her 3nd owner in 37 years, a rare phenomenon amongst classic sailboats. No expense has been spared during her refurbishing, with custom joiner work and extensive upgrades above and below deck, loaded with top of the line equipment…the SHOW BOAT of all Valiant Yachts ever to be available on the brokerage market.
There are MANY wonderful and adventurous stories about this renown yacht, to share with her new owners.
“MISS ELLIE'S” sistership, Mark Schrader's VALIANT 40, "Resourceful" was the FIRST AMERICAN BOAT to circumnavigate via the five southern capes. She is capable of sailing through the harshest conditions, in the wildest or calmest oceans of the world!!!
“MISS ELLIE” is a perfect example of a classic Perry offshore yacht, has proven offshore capabilities and was designed for blue water sailing. Naval Architect Bob Perry, has incorporated into this sturdy double ender, both seaworthiness and ample interior space that offers steady and comfortable cruising, and features the traditional or “CLASSIC” Valiant 40 layout, with lines that incorporate a tumble home stern, bulwarks, dorades, opening ports, oversize rigging and quality construction. The Valiant 40 is a modern classic. Performance has become synonymous with Valiant and is in no small way responsible for its success. SAIL Magazine selected the Valiant 40 as the ”Offshore Cruiser of the “Decade”, and Valiant’s induction into the Sailing Hall of Fame.
This is the layout, known WORLDWIDE as the look which made the Valiant 40 famous with sailors throughout the world and which has taken more sailors on circumnavigations, than any other production yacht.
THIS IS A RARE, HIGHLY CUSTOMIZED & REBUILT VALIANT 40!!!!!
LOOK OVER THIS LISTING AND THEN START PLANNING YOUR CRUISE!!!
Sail Magazine wrote: “The Valiant 40 is a fast, offshore yacht. Her clean and efficient design gives her a remarkable ability to point high while footing fast and makes her safe, comfortable and exhilarating. She has a stable, easily driven hull powered by a close-winded, versatile rig.
Her hull features a modern split appendage, fin-keel and skeg-rudder combination. She has a graceful sheer rising to a flared bow and a salty, tumblehome canoe stern. Minimal overhangs fore and aft, coupled with canoe stern, contribute to a long-sailing length, with a bonus of increased space below decks. The bow flare is ample for a dry boat and it provides both a safe, workable foredeck and reserve buoyance to keep the bow from diving in a seaway. Likewise, the stern parts a following sea in the same fashion as a “double-ender” while adding sufficient reserve buoyancy to keep the boat dry and reduce the chance of pooping. There is also a moderate bustle development aft that increases the effective sailing length.
Without question, we feel that Valiant is the best-constructed production yacht in the United States, built for serious, appreciative yachtsmen. Valiant 40: THE ULTIMATE BLUEWATER PERFORMANCE CRUISER.”
She is a beautiful cutter capable of going anywhere in the world. She is fast, responsive and capable of living aboard in great comfort and eagerly awaiting a new owner to put her through her paces in the open ocean….where she belongs!
We are pleased once again, to be involved with this VALIANT 40 - No one knows the history of this VALIANT 40 and Valiant Yachts, better!
IN THE OWNERS WORDS:
We purchased Miss Ellie in 2001 and trucked her from Titusville Florida to Sarnia Ontario. Then we worked on restoring her for the next 12 years. All the time sailing her in the clean fresh water of the Great Lakes. Cruising in Lake Huron, the North Channel and Georgian Bay. A short, northern sailing season, with every winter stored on the hard with the mast down. Inside storage on the extensive refit winters.
No expense was spared to improve and upgrade all systems on Miss Ellie. She is now better than new. The deck and cockpit
were peeled, reglassed, faired and painted with Imron. Every through deck opening was over bored and filled with solid epoxy to prevent any intrusion of water into the cored deck. Below the water line she was also extensively peeled and re-glassed, faired, and painted with Interprotect 2000, then 3 coats of blue and 3 coats of black bottom paint. Last bottom paint was in fall 2015. Total electrical rewire using Blue Seas systems and a new Beta engine in 2013 with only 650 hour on it. She has been lightly used for the last 3 years in Florida and the Bahamas during our 6 month cruising winter season. Then carefully decommissioned and stored on the hard until next season.
$65,000 of all new electronics installed in June 2015. The list of upgrades are extensive. She is a fantastic sailing ship that can take you to any port in the world you desire with ease and comfort. She is the original side entry design. Some, like myself, say the best interior, all carefully sanded and varnished to a meticulous high gloss. Easy maintenance and a stunning vision.
You must see her to believe her.
MORE FROM THE LISTING BROKER:
Having been actively involved in the brokerage and new boat and brokerage yacht industry since the 1975, we have been fortunate to have been able to broker some very amazing and special yachts. Our specialty has always been quality bluewater passage makers, so we are very pleased and proud to have been appointed by an experienced and life long yachtsman, to offer his highly customized and rebuilt VALIANT 40’.
The Valiant 40 was designed by one of the more innovative and forward thinking yacht designers of the past century. Today, as a personal friend, we often refer to him as “the father of the cruising yacht”. The yachts he designed and built have earned him a solid reputation among the best designers of the modern cruising sailing yacht.
Not only are they heavily built and comfortable, given the efficient modern hull form, safe fast passages.
Upon acquiring “MISS ELLIE”, the owners undertook a thorough and complete 12 year refit of not only the interior and exterior refinishing, all systems including the engine, electronics, spars and rigging were incorporated to enable a retired, short handed crew to make safe, round trip passages to and from The Bahamas.
If you are in the market for a world reknown, safe and comfortable long range passagemaker, you will find it well worth your while to give “MISS ELLIE” a very thorough consideration and do plan on closely examining the many photos of this INCREDIBLE YACHT

This well cared for yacht, sleeps seven people in accommodations with the traditional tri-cabin layout with large private forward and aft staterooms and a spacious central salon and pull out double settee.
The main salon is open and inviting with large settees, (port pulls out to a “double) providing for excellent and comfortable offshore sleeping quarters and a wide sole and numerous stowage areas.
The interior of the Valiant 40’ is dry, bright, comfortable and well ventilated with 12-screened opening ports, 4 large, opening hatches, a large companionway hatch , 1-solar ventilator and 3 dorades. All Valiants are styled with the heritage of the finest features found in the most sought after yachting accommodations and finished in furniture quality teak.
The overhead is drop-down Formica panels with teak battens for ease of installation and inspection of below deck fittings.
Most forward and aft of the chain locker, you will find the V-berth with full size high density custom mattresses, making the V-berth a true stateroom, storage shelves to port and starboard and tremendous storage under the V-berth. There is a large opening hatch above the berth and a custom forward facing opening port, for great ventilation, light and the added benefit of being able to see the forward areas of the yacht, while down below. The forward cabin is closed off by a teak door, giving complete privacy to guests or crew in the forward berth.
Next aft to port is a large head, with ensuite shower with ample storage including, several lockers and cupboards. Ventilation is excellent, with opening port in head, plus an overhead dorade ventilator. The forward bulkhead has a custom teak trimmed mirror which covers the entire area, adding even more light in the head.
Directly across and to starboard are two very large, full length hanging lockers with bookshelves over. There is a screened opening port to starboard. All locker doors have louvered vents for air circulation.
Moving aft is the main salon which is located amidships with large comfortable settees to port and starboard, (ideal sea berths when on a passage) a custom bulkhead mounted, drop down teak table, for dining to port, or when opened fully, it becomes a double, full salon dining table.
Outboard and above are custom cabinets with drawer on starboard and port side and bookshelves forward on both sides. There is a large opening hatch overhead and large opening ports. Storage is abundant, with large storage areas behind settees. Teak & holly sole throughout. Cabinet doors have great ventilation for contents within, as the owners have installed beautiful custom caning.
There are brass reading lamps, port and starboard on the forward bulkhead and a classic brass gimballed gas lamp on the starboard bulkhead. The spacious, central main salon is open and inviting with large settees, providing for comfortable berths at sea, a wide sole and numerous stowage areas.
Aft of the main salon and to starboard is a proper offshore, forward facing navigation station and chart table with tremendous room for the full compliment of navigation and electronic equipment for easy use while navigating. The large nav table has a large storage locker under the desk top, a deep locker and outboard, room for the additional electronic navigation and communication equipment.
Just aft of the nav station and directly across from the galley are two huge lockers, one a which provides a tremendous amount of space for provisions, the other, a large, full length wet locker. There is a teak grate built into the teak and holly sole, at the bottom of the companionway, to catch water from wet gear. With the wet locker and teak draining grate, which drains to the bilge, all foul weather gear is kept aft and away from the main living quarters. All locker doors are ventilated.
Aft of the main salon and to port, is the classic “wrap around” “U” shape configured, offshore safe galley, that will delight the gourmet, whether at sea or dockside. There is generous cabinet & counter space, 3 galley drawers, lockers under the sink, 1 locker outboard with custom tilt out trash bin, 1 large deep stainless steel sink and 1 large shallow stainless steel sink, 4-burner S.S. Force 10 Propane stove with Oven and Broiler. Over the galley is a large opening hatch and an opening port for light and ventilation. Above the sinks, you will find a large custom teak cabinet with shelves and dual caned opening doors. There are extensive lockers and storage, outboard over stove and under counter, 2-additional caned cabinet doors, plus many custom storage features. The galley has a pressure and manual fresh water system and huge provision locker. There is a large double well insulated ice box athwartship with separate top opening lids, PLUS custom built and installed front opening doors.
The owner has also installed a fold up teak extension outboard on the frig end, that opens up to almost double the usable counter space for the chef.
Next aft to port is the Captains aft cabin. There is a double berth with custom mattress for superior comfort, massive storage under, dressing seat, with lockers above. The aft stateroom also has excellent ventilation provided by a screened overhead hatch and 2 opening ports, plus a quiet Hella Turbo fan.
Cabinetry and features throughout this beautifully designed yacht, far exceed the standard layout of this much sought after traditional, side entry Valiant, with the Captains quarters in the port double aft quarter berth. She is a famous “traditional layout” Valiant 40’ which has taken more sailors on circumnavigations, than any other yacht design ever built.
There are 12-opening ports with screens and 4 opening deck hatches with screens, plus the companionway hatch and screened opening, which provides a tremendous amount of light and superior cross ventilation. There are also 3 Stainless Steel dorade vents, one over the head, one over the chart table and one over the “V” berth. Below deck ventilation far surpasses the standards in the industry. This yacht incorporates beautiful teak and holly floor, screwed down and plugged in the traditional manner and a rich teak interior. There are Hella fans throughout.
Below the water line, the hull shows a fine entry with a long cutaway forefoot followed by an efficient and modern keel section and a deep profile skeg hung rudder, just forward of a tapered stern section. This design combination readily separates the Valiant from other traditional yachts and offers ease of handling and lively performance.
